Black Dog is a good one though, I always $%&# up the timing at one part which gets annoying.

Me too - I'm not sure what time it is in but it always comes in earlier or later than me!
I think I hate being indecisive.

And me, its got to be spot on or it won't work. I can never get it spot on.

The only time I can get it 'spot on' is when I play it on my own with no drums or anything. Just me and a guitar. Very frustrating - how does Jimmy Page do it every time.  :?

The studio version shifts from 4/4 to 5/4 for a bar then goes back to 4/4, if i recall correctly.
Live they just play it in 4/4.

I had to analyse the riff for my college coursework.

recently i had a good time playing (killing, actually) "oroborus" by gojira... a funny (fun to play, not ridiculous...) death metal tune mostly played in tapping. easy but not too obvious to play properly.
Mule, MQ, Stockholm, CS, RY, MM, PK, ANB, CNB, AWP, CWP, PiG90...

too many? ;)

So that would explain why it sounds like it goes out of time.

A fun song for me is The Osmonds Crazy Horses

AH! I've just been reading through this thread, and with several people saying "can't do it" (nor can I), I was getting ready to chime in with "Led Zeppelin weren't too hot at it live sometimes either " - that might explain it.

My favourite Led Zeppelin song (riff-wise) is The Ocean, that's another one with a 5/4 bar in it.

Meanwhile, I've been learning some fun new songs today, all from the recording and singing point of view - so they might not grab you so much Tom:

Elenore - The Turtles
Needles and Pins - The Searchers (et al)
When you walk in the room - The Searchers (et al)
Delta Dawn - various people
Darling be home soon - John Sebastian
Avenues and Alleyways - Tony Christie

It's been great fun, for me anyway (not so sure about the neighbours ) - haven't sung full-throated for a LONG time...

I'm not sure what started it... but I think I've been suddenly pushed off in a pop (mainly 60s) direction by my new Yardbirds pickups.
