Although I've got no urges to go out and buy an AXE FX and love my valve amps, I completely agree. I was fortunate (and old) enough to see Peter Green playing live in the Marquee club. His normal amp had packed up and he was playing through a borrowed Vox T60 bass amp (very early 'unreliable' transistor amp - same as Paul McCartney originally used) - totally naff as a guitar amp, but he sounded absolutely amazing - straight in, no effects pedals.

Thing is with the Axe that it is an improvement process. You program better and better patches as you go, and then there are 65 amp models, so if you want "change" it's just a notch on the dial away.

Well, we'll see. From his posts in the Fractal Audio forum he seems pretty committed, also for simplicity and consistency, and he is very thrilled about the kit.

I think the Axe-FX thing is like the Relic issue - you either understand it, and love, it or you don't.  There's no half-way house!

Me, I love Relics as they feel so great to play.  They're the pre-washed denim jeans of the guitar world.  Who cares if they didn't 'earn' their wear like a true old guitar?  I think they're better than old ones as they feel like them but the parts aren't knackered!  :lol:

And proper valve amps always rule over a computer.  There's just something about that old technology that makes it more raw and rock 'n roll.  Why play a 60 year old design like a Telecaster through a brand new silicon based chip?  Old skool should stay with old skool  :D

If you want to play through a computer, get a SynthAxe, midi switching and a modeller and go the whole hog..........
