Majestic transformers will do one offs and small orders and aren't outrageously priced.
Dennis Cornell uses Majestic Transformers for his amps.
If you look into winding transformers (and at the moment I am gearing up to have a go at this!) then doing one off really isn't that profitable, especially if you have had to do any design work.
I wasn't aware that Cornford wound their transformers in house, I thought they used a chap down in Kent for this.
"Custom designed in house and hand-wound" doesn't really mean a lot........
Your probably right then, not sure where I heard it but maybe I've confused the 'designed in house' statement....
"Designed in house" is what Cornford say on their blurb, however what this exactly means is anyone's guess.
I've specified transformers for several projects in terms of reflected impedance, band-width, secondary taps etc, but does this mean I've "designed" it?
The actual build details, eg interleaving pattern, wire gauges, turns per layer etc I leave to the transformer winders who know
loads more about this than I do and probably ever will!
I am trying to learn more about transformer design and winding. There is a real dearth of info about this on the web. I've managed to get my hands some useful books, and to chat with a couple of people who actually do know about this.
I hopefully should have a go at winding some of my own output transformers at some stage, although this will be purely out of curiosity than any attempt to go into production (but then I said that about guitar amplifiers...........).
