PG BLUES PICKUPS-FIRST IMPRESSIONS.
« on: April 30, 2009, 12:11:17 AM »
I've just installed the PG Blues into my Vintage Icon v100 Peter Green inspired guitar.
It's a cheap copy of Peters 'Lemon drop' 59er that Gary Moore made great use of and recently sold.
Now, I didn't hate the Wilkinson pups, but I require a more accurate sound than the generic pickups offered.
The PG Blues slotted in without adjustments and I cranked the guitar with a few kinds of amps and at differing volumes.
Cristal clean tones are available on either the neck and bridge and because each are wired out of phase, they sound slightly quirky even without the famed middle position.
With a sensitive and decent amp, the neck will clear up and when under gain, the singing quality of the neck pushes through with musicality.
The bridge punches a sonic hole through mediocrity.
Naturally we can all reverse any pickups and wire them out of phase but the PGs are the real deal.
Imagine any Peter Green sound and its in these pickups.
After all these years, the realization of all that music under my fingers is quite daunting.
Now all I have to do is learn how to play it properly!
I fear that ambition will take even longer than the creation of Tims 10 out of 10 pick ups.
Therefore, if you like blues rock and Peter Greens astonishing tones, buy these and smile from ear to ear.
Nuff said.
