Looks like a good acquisition :D

And I'd always wondered why "T Tops" were called that!

I think the T on the bobbin was to tell the person asembling the pickup which side was the top of the bobbin
Thus eliminating phasing problems amongst other issues

As the coils were always originally going to be under a metal cover the visible T wasn't going to matter.

... you need to get that string sorted out.  The angle is all wrong.

very nice guitar! FWIW, I rather like the look of the pickup selector in that position :)

I like it, LPs without maple tops and all the fancy trimmings are great!  :D

The only thing I'm not keen on is the switch position, it doesn't seem very sensible.  SG's from that period had the same layout, but it didn't last long!

they're made from Walnut with a Ebony Fret Board I had one of these which I sold to a student of mine and it's a very nice guitar I paid about £500 for mine.

i was watching that guitar myself! glad i didn't bid you up!

it's a gorgeous little thing, and i do hope to have one at some point.  you said the firebrand was a double-cut, but i think there was also a firebrand that was exactly the same as this, except of course the gibson logo was branded.  i always found that very cool!  the double cut was more like a downsized 335, if i remember correctly.

Yep, the double cut was called the 335-S (for Solid! :) ), and again I think some had the Firebrand logo and some didn't.

I recieved the guitar today. After a bit of noodling around find that I really love this guitar! The body isn't as thick as a Les Paul but not as thin as an SG either. It certainly has that big LP sound and, IMO, the T-Top Humbuckers sound fantastic for their age, especially the neck! The neck is really smoth and very comfortable to play, this is a very good guitar for playing bluee, it handles both clean and overdriven blues stuff really well.

I am playing a gig tomorrow night and I think I'll definitely be trying out this guitar in a live situation. The only flaw is with the pickup switch position, I would prefer it to be in the usual place but oh well. Overall it's a great guitar and can't wait to take it out gigging!
BKP's own: Irish Tours, Mule(b), Black Dog(b)
BKP's had: Riff Raffs, Nailbombs

Great that you like it! :)

Modify it wouldn't be very hard :)
