Is Confused.com accurate for bike insurance?
« on: May 11, 2009, 10:03:04 PM »
So, I'm looking at getting a bike a again.

Does anyone know anything about bike insurance?

I was using confused.com to see the cost, and a Gilera DNA 125cc would be about £300 and a Suzuki Intruder VL 125 would be £175

How accurate an estimate would these be? The Suzuki is a cruiser/custom type and is way more up my street, but the Gilera DNA's are cheap BUT I have heard their easily stolen... maybe this is why the insurance is double.

I loathe insurance... it's such a guessing game.

I only ever used H&R Insurance for my bike, cheapest by miles for me.  Worth checking out if they're not on the Confused list.

i'd be very wary of going near confused.com on the basis that (from what i've heard, and as far as i'm aware):

- they're paid commission
- they pass on your details to third parties
- not every insurer is on it

Cheers Dave I'll give them a call and see what's what, I don't think I've seen them on the Confused.com list and to be honest their site for the bikes is seriously appalling.

Though if I can get insurance for less than £250 I'm a very happy man, I'm yet to do my CBT but I'm sure being 24 is starting to bring down the cost of these policies.

I'm mostly looking to get a bike so I can search for jobs in a wider area, and fun and adventure of course!

if you find the cheapest on confused.com, try getting a quote off the company direct, it might be even cheaper then since there is no comission

Probably worth giving Bennetts a ring too.  You should get a good ball park figure off of them.  It's who I've always used inthe past
Advice worth what you just paid for it.

Confused just feed your data into the individual companies websites so usually from that company that will be as cheap as you get. Sometimes they have special discount arrangements which mean they will actually be cheaper. But not all sites are on there and you will probably find cheaper by doing the leg work however they are a reliable indicator giving pretty close to the price you will pay.

I have tried using them for car and house and lots of other comparison sites. One that surprised me was Hiscox for home insurance.
