Cubase question
« on: May 12, 2009, 01:39:36 PM »
Afternoon all,

I've run into a bit of an odd one on Cubase. Bascically when I play back a recording through the UX1 it is all fine. When it is played back through the PC the playback speed is quicker. It's confusing me - any ideas why this may be happening?

Cheers,

Ian.

Is the pitch different as well?  It could be a problem with the sample-rate.  Like if you've recorded at 44.1kHz & the PC sound card is playing back at 48kHz that would speed it up a little & the pitch would go up a little too.

Yeah - pitch is different. How would I fix the sample rate? Bear in mind you are talking to a Cubase simpleton!

I'm at work right now, so I can't check.  But you might be able to change it in the project set-up menu (I think that's under the edit drop down menu).  I'll check when I get home.

psy is correct, it's a sample rate issue.

You want to set all cards and the cubase session to the same bit rate. You've probably got one on 44.1 and one on 48.

Unless you are recording acoustic instruments, a capella vocals, or the like, you're best bet is to record 24 bit/44.1 kHz to avoid speed and pitch issues and save hard drive space!

Unless like me you've got a soundblaster Audigy2 card in it.  It seems to run natively at 48kHz & tried resample it on the fly if you set it to record at 44.1kHz & results in some audio clicks.

Right then.  I'm home now (yay).  I don't know if it'll help... but on the Project menu go to project set up.  You can change the sample rate in there if you need to.  Change it to match the sample rate of the device it sounded right on.  I'd guess it says 48kHz now & it was recorded at 44.1kHz.  If it asked you to convert the audio to the new sample rate click no (or skip or something).  That way it'll take the pitch & speed back down again.

Fingers crossed that's what the problem is :)
