New pickups
« on: May 26, 2009, 01:26:41 AM »
Hi, been hearing some great things about bare knuckle pickups, started reading these forums a few days ago.

I have an Ibanez RG3EX1 and was thinking about upgrading my pickups from the standard EMG's.

First, should I upgrade and then later put them into my next guitar (if that's possible, sorry, I am new to this stuff), or just wait?

Secondly, I am looking for metal-sounding pickups, and after listening to the samples I am looking more specifically at the Nailbombs, Warpigs, and Painkillers. I play pretty much anything, but mostly stuff from Pantera, Avenged Sevenfold, Megadeth, and Muse. Should I get one of those sets, or different ones for the bridge and neck?

You guys might hate me for this, but I'm using an MG100 halfstack.

And yeah, its basswood.

Definitely upgrade the amp. BKP's sound good but it won't do you much good into a solid state. even less good into a MG, sorry mate!

welcome around anyhow!
My BK's:
Black Dog8-Riff Raff8 / Black Dog7-Mule7
C-Bomb Set / Blackhawk Bridge
Holydiver Set/ BG50 Set

Dont bother dropping £200 on pickups when you play through an MG. You wont really notice the differance as much, unfortunately you are going to have to prioritise getting a better amp. For the money of the BKP you could get a Laney GH50L or AOR and they do great metal sounds.
