The woodytone blog is cool, although some of his info is way off base. That guy is a regular on the SD forum.

I don't care. I just enjoy so much reading those 70s guitar player interviews. Darn what a great time it must have been.

Especially the part where he talks about his Marshall being modified by Jim and putting out 500W, and him replacing speakers every other week because they blow. Just gotta love that stuff!

was just thinking...

"i take my modeller direct into the house sound system with my self made hot-rod marshall patch"

it doesn't have quite the same rings as

"i take the 200w marshall major heads, which jim marshall himself modified to 500w since it wasn't the sound i preferred. the only reason i use two stacks on stage is because i blow the output transformers and speakers at least once a week"

Indeed :O)

If I would be famous and give interviews though, I'd probably have 500W Peter modded Herberts to amplify my Axe FX patches *LOL

Guys -- Heard about this from a reader, had to respond.

Hunter, glad you enjoy the stuff I am digging up.

Denim, not sure what you are referring to specifically, but pls let me know because inaccurate info serves no one.  Unless they are reviews of stuff that I have done myself, all of the info on WoodyTone comes from published sources, with at times conflicting info published with sources noted.  Also, since I've been a journalist for most of my professional life, I make every effort to get stuff "right," bearing in mind that artists change gear a lot and reporters can get things wrong too.  Bottom line is that if you see anything "way off base" at WoodyTone, pls let me know. Thank you.

And if anyone has any rundowns of BKP stuff they'd like to share with WT readers, I'd be more than happy to take a look at it.

Hey woody, great to see you here. You got an amazing service going there, great stuff!

I was reading through all the Blackmore interviews, and indeed he says once his Marshall was 500W, once he says 400W, once he says 300W. Probably over the years people told him that even a modded 200W Marshall wouldn't put out 500W.

But this kind of mis-information is obviously not your fault!

The guy's really simple. No bass, no tone knob fiddling, etc. etc.

Quite.. astonishing to me tbh, lol..

I'm old enough   to have seen him with Deep Purple in a fairly small venue. I'm not sure whether it was 200, 300 or 500 watt but it was without doubt the loudest amp I have ever heard - ears were ringing for several days after.

I swear my ears are still ringing after hearing Noddy Holders 200watt Hiwatt at Hammersmith back in 1980

Funniest story like that I heard was by a guy who went to see Gary Moore back in the day.  Apparently Gary brought his coliseum sound system into a small club.  Guys in the audience said he had to leave because he thought his heart rhythm was changing!  Scary stuff.

Thanks Hunter.  If you or anyone else would like to see me delve into anything in particular at woodytone.com, just drop me a line here or there.  Peace!

don't be too sure... reading the quotes, it seems like blackmore is talking about 500w distorted output, rather than the usual clean output rating. i can almost believe it then
