Gut shots.

Revolution Series One:

The Rev's a little messy because I've had a couple mods done; gain mod on the clean channel, and OT swap with a Rev Plus.

I have played half of the amps you mentioned and would consider the Rev Plus to be a peer to the higher end, and far superior to VHT, Splawn and Mesa quality-wise.

   oh man!

??? Peavey is designed more reliable than Mesa, Sig X's burn regularily, and I dont' think Splawn even belongs in the conversation.

yo im just saying what i can get in the UK right now, at this second online.
I'm having trouble even finding a price for a Krank in £'s let alone a place thats selling them online.
I converted the price I got in euro's to pounds.

I don't care about a bunch of the amps i mentioned, im just saying what i could get in the UK for that money.

I can get an Uberschall for £1600 for example (guitar guitar). I Cornford MK50 MII is £1810 (dolphin music). Its a bad demonstration because i couldn't find a UK price online, only in Euro, but like i said, If i can't find a UK price and I wanted one right at that second i'd have had to buy from EU.

the gut shots dont impress me.
I hate that horrid goo. you say its their to stop vibrations messing up the amp, but my bro's JMP2204 has never had goo in it, and its been gigged, and its still all original. It wasn't put together using goo. the board on the Uberschall, or Avenger, and yeah, even the peavey 5150 look more robust than that.
Why all the untidy leads trailing everywhere? why the goo over the componants? is a resistor really going to shake loose? why feed a lead between two orange drops and then pinch them together and goo them up? thats going on in two places on that picture? just seems like an untidy way to make connections in an amp. It also looks like there is a cable there in the middle that isn't even attached to anything? and i don't personally like the ribbon cable. The 5150 uses a similar way to connect boards internally but peavey us a heavier gauge wire connected in a similar manner to those ribbon cables, only its not connected using solder, so its not mega annoying to take it out if you need to remove a pcb.

I dont see why it should be messy just because its been modded either. Other than sound, I don't like the Rev because its pretty much a Sovtek mig100 with a few mods here and there (and its not worth the UK price) therefore I don't feel its new or really groundbreaking. I don't like the build quality from the photos ive seen, or the overall aesthetics and i don't like how the sweep control is connected to the plate of the stage prior to the tone stack, meaning when i hold it, my fingers would be only a fraction of a distance away from a few hundred volts. not a concept I like personally.

Copperhead, follow your own advice - you found an amp that the sound of works for you. Thats all any of us do. Yay. Your Krank Krusade is getting rather tiresome, though. Youre looking more and more like a shill.

I'm willing to give you the benefit of the doubt and say its genuine enthusiasm, but your "defence" of Krank here (which largely consists of putting down almost everything else) is making me want to avoid them.

in the UK, in my opinion, you can do better for your money.
I just tried to find a UK listing but I couldnt find anything on the Sounds Great Music website or the Machinehead site, and both are meant to be Krank dealers. I searched for half an hour. they dont even have them on Thomann. I found a price for a Rev1 100watt in euro that was e1990. so thats like £1830. (i might be a bit off the mark with this)

At that price, in the UK youre in the realm of (or more expensive than...) Mesa, Bogner Uberschall's, VHT (fryette), various Splawn's, Rivera K-Tre, some Soldano, Cornford MK50 mII, in fact a few cornfords can be had for less than that. Personally, i don't think that a Rev1 can stand up to some of those amps in terms of build quality from the gut shots ive seen... im totally overlooking tone at this point but thats a serious bunch of amps to compete with.

THIS is the biggest problem. I have never even SEEN a Krankenstein or full-size Revolution in England and I have frequented quite a lot of stores in London and Birmingham - the biggest cities in the UK.
I played a Krank Rev Jr ONCE at a store in Denmark Street and ended up getting one fairly cheap by mail-order from a very small store in the UK.

Kranks are simply not on the map in the UK, and if you can get a Marshall JVM410 for less than a 1000£ or a Laney Lionheart for less than 500£  in the UK other companies will have to do a LOT better to convince people to cough up the extra dough. Peavey at least has got a proper name and is brand recognized, their amps have been tested and proven so many times on some many records, you know at least they can't be half-bad.

Plus, there's also ENGL, which are more common in Europe than in the US?   They kinda fit in as well where Krank fits in (metal people), just you also see people like Steve Morse or other "non-hardcore-metal" people use ENGLs.

To me internet forums are about 99% false information anyway.

I'm assuming you're including your own posts in that statement  :)

To me it's simple. I have an amp I like and don't really care what anyone else thinks. Sure, I'll say it's great but I wouldn't expect others to automatically agree with me - nor would I argue about someone elses opinion. Roo's love of teles is a great example of this  :o

Oh c'mon that looks like a mess. Long cables + not twisted and mayonnaise and marmite is in the amp. A couple of others for wiring comparison.

DR103

SLO

an amp you consider the Krank 'far superior to'

It's funny how most guys here say "Buy the amp that sounds the best, regardless of what name is on it"
but in reality this forum is all about gear snobbery.

There is some truth in that - but it's in ratio to price, some amps at 600 cream amps at 1500. That kind of snobbery is good.

Also, since when does gigging make you the arbiter of taste. You don't need to gig to enjoy or know good tone. If anything that is the biggest forum myth - that only gigging players are able to enjoy or recognize good gear.

The thing with the 5150 is it is a relatively cheap amp etc... but it sounds amazing and has been/is the staple of so many classic modern metal recordings it's not funny.

I understand you are close to Krank but c'mon have some honesty and perspective!Show me one clip of a Krank sounding good. Or even, just not bad!

I never said I was superior to anyone because I gig a lot. The point was, the volume of a live set and the dynamics of a mix in an open room are very much different than a practice room, recording studio or your bedroom.
If offense was taken, you must be reading between the lines where nothing is written.

I tried a SLO, it was good, but not so much better than my 5150 that I would switch.
I gigged with a 5150 from early 1995 to late 2006. I played a Revolution in the summer of 2006 and it completely blew me away.

I have two friends that went out and bought the Sig X. Both have had problems with components burning up on the board, so much so that both sold the heads within one year of owning them. Given these problems and that of the bankruptcy of VHT, I would not touch one with a 10 foot pole. I did not get the opportunity to try either.

There is a repair center near me that does warranty repairs of many different manufacturers of amps and sound gear etc. I have known these guys for about 24 years. I am in there a lot and have sat and chatted with the techs while they were working. Never a shortage of Mesa heads with something blowed up inside of them. The owner of the place told me "Never buy a Mesa unless you plan to buy two."

I have played a Splawn but to me it seemed like just another rehashed Marshall.

There was no bankruptcy of VHT. They lost the name in court and are now called Fryette - exactly the same company.

Maybe if Krank sold anywhere near as many amps as Mesa and VHT you could draw a comparison between a few bad amps and consistency. You can't even get Krank in the UK (?) which shows the confidence dealers have in them. And it's still heresay - 'my friend said' etc...

You wont have your opinion changed because of your emotional investment you have in Krank - not saying that's bad. TF is the same with Martamp (except they are good). The pics you posted show how little Krank care about their workmanship - it wouldn't even be an issue if they sounded good. But, I've yet to hear a clip of a Krank that sounds good!

I can see why I don't join in with these amp threads... I reckon my cr@ppy ole POD XTlive through a shoe box would blow off all yer arsie big-boys amps anyway

Seriously though, I was reading this thread with some interest at lunch time (and I'll never get that time back again...) - as a vaguely impartial observer I think there seems to be good points on all sides.

I'm not sure anyone's actually disagreeing with anyone else, I think it's one of those "misunderstanding" knots you can get caught up with on the internet or in email chains... hate it when then happens to me, so I thought I might try and help you bail out.... I might be wrong, of course, and you all might be complete b@stards, but that's what it sounds like to me...

Love and peace to everyone... this made me laugh though:
