HI END AMP TALK -- all experiences welcome!

Early this year I upgraded my home recording setup and decided that next year I would be getting another amplifier to complement my Splawn Quick Rod.

While the list kind of increases and shrinks as the weeks go by, it's halfway though the year and time to start assembling the Short List.

My list thus far is as follows:

Komet 19
Komet 60
Bruno Pony 50
Sommatone Outlaw

If anyone owns one of these amps or has any firsthand experience, I would love to hear about it.

Also, if you know of anything that you think is comparable, I would love to know about it.

I have no interest in amps by the following makers:

Cornford
Matchless
Victoria
Carr
Mojave


They just don't do anything for me.

I'm also not interested in anything that is a Dumble clone.

Single channel is fine, wattage isn't too too important. Plexi clones are fine, so long as have some versatility. Don't need reverb.

Have you tried the new Marshall MG Series? It's got pure analogue tone and built in effects!

MG15CD is my dream amp. No joke. Kerry King plays it. And Matt Heafy. Serious. And come on.. It has CD In capabilities!!!

I am impressed by the Sommatone-havent played, but heard live-very class A-ish-
the Egnater Rebel, is it??got a big ravin' review in Guitar World this month by Chris Gill-said it was perfect for studio applications/big tone from little amp-and the price was nice...

WHat sort of tones/gain levels are you looking for really ?   For rhythm or lead mostly ?

What musical style ?  For recording/live or both ?

Bit more info would be useful.

Can't recomend Martins Amps highly enough....I want to try the orion..but scared I like it

Everyone who's tried it has liked it, and for under £1200 it's a steal.  If I could only have one amp out of the ones I've got, and all the ones on the market today, I'd keep my Orion thank-you-very-much.

The benefit of helping out with the amps design I guess, but it's turned out even better than I would have imagined.  It covers everything from clean to light crunch to rock to NWOBM tones at anything from living room to gigging volumes.

If you love classic rock and blues, you'll love this amp.

From the list of amps you mentioned I guess you're looking at an open, plexi type amp for the mid gain and hairy cleans, is this correct? More Plexi than Vox I suppose?

What features are mandatory for you? Loop? Switching options? Wattage?

What would fit your list and is MUST for testing in my opinion:

I disagree with the Shiva. It's clean channel is addictive, but it's clean. No hair to be had there. And the drive channel is more JCM800 with a bit more compression. I would recommend the Shiva as an allround rock amp for anyone who wants to use it for all from Clean to Rock (not metal).
