Yeah, RIP Michael Jackson. He made some very good records - though none of them are entirely my cup of tea. I remember seeing him on TV when I was little - were they regulars on the Andy Williams show? (Or is that my imagination?)

Blimey Andy, you are old!  The only thing I can remember about the Andy Williams Show is that every week he'd do some kind of knock knock joke (?) with a bloke in a bear costume.

But yeah, the Jackson Five were on there:

Despite the controversy, he gave people a hell of lot with his music. I bought Thriller in 1983 on cassette, the production and song performances were miles better than anything else around. I never thought at the time he was capable of what he stood accused of back when all the shiteee hit the fan. He was a victim of manipulation of his vulnerability. All child stars suffer in some way or another when they become adults. I listened to 'Off The Wall' 2 weeks ago and the vocals are fantastic.

Anyway it happens to us all. "Charmone Muthafuker!"

People can give him as much grief as they want, but nobody will ever be able to contribute to music the way he did, and I think it's a shame that someone as influential as him is completely disregarded as a musician, and is remembered by people by the controversy in the last few years.

Admittedly, he made some bad decisions, and he was by no means 100% sound in the head, but he was by far the greatest performer ever, and I don't think there will ever be anyone with even a 10th of his talent EVER.

I'm very sad since I heard the news. And it's also a pity to see him go like that... :(

He was a great artist, no one can deny the impact he had on the overall modern pop / rock music.

Sad times, I'm going to try and remember him for the good things.

Though really, if someone, anyone, really had 'touched' YOUR child, would you really take a wad of money over seeing him go to jail?

I think not.

You only have to look in the paper - just about 365 days of the year - to see how little some people care about their kids and what they'll do to them.

Very sad news indeed. I remember 'Beat it' from the second back to the future film and it always makes me think of that film when i think of it.

Definatly a huge loss to the music world, its a shame we'll never see what would've happened at those 50 o2 shows.

I don't think it's a loss to the music companies. Whoever own the rights to his back catalogue will be rubbing their hands with glee.

Also let's not forget Rob Templeton, Quincy Jones in the list of other people responsible for those very successful songs and albums. Remember he didn't write any of the Motown issued stuff and take a look at the writers credits on the solo albums for yourselves if you don't believe me .

If I remember correctly it was the Bad album forward that he did all the writing/composing. Take a look at the figures that are published for sales and they speak for themselves in my opinion.

Was he talented? No doubt about it. Was he troubled? Again, no doubt about it. Does he have a good team of advisers and lawyers? Yep...

All people seem to care about now is his music. Will we all be so understanding when Gary Glitter snuffs it?

Remembering a person just for one thing is silly in my opinion. You have to look at their life as a whole. I don't see us remembering Hitler for making brown shirts the shirt to wear or for making small black moustaches popular. Do they remember him for his artworks for instance?

There are 10 kinds of people who understand binary.
Those who do and those who do not.
