Please help with a grounding problem

Hi all

I've got a problem with my Les Paul that I'm pretty sure is a grounding issue.  It's a Gibson R8 so has 50's wiring.  The guitar gives off a loud hum which stops if I touch any of the metal on the guitar - strings, bridge etc.

I've tried resoldering the braided wire to the back of the volume pots a couple of times but no joy.  Does anyone have any tips for other things I can check?

Ignore this - if I turn my computer off at the mains then the problem goes away!

I was going to say if the buzz goes away when you touch the metal parts, that sounds pretty normal.

If you have shielded pickups I would measure the impedance (ohm) between ground and shield with an multimeter just to make sure they are properly grounded. There should also be a thin blank wire connected to the bridge posts and it could have gotten loose. Just my two cents, Cheers
