MQ - Tim help, please
« on: October 29, 2005, 04:37:18 PM »
A few days ago I had a topic here regarding MQs for my Epi. I tried several times to send Tim an email to get some advice but never got an answer. I´m suspicious that the connection did not work and I don´t have any imagination where the fault is so that I try it via forum now.

After much brainstorming I decided to order a set of goldcovered MQs for my LP Studio - I coincidentally played an LP Special today and was very impressed. Since Tim has already made an overwhelming set of Mules for it and I don´t like to buy one more guitar I plan to swap them around  depending on my mood.

The only two technical questions are remaining which magnet and DC-resistance to choice to get an authentic p90 blues tone and if the 500k pots can be left in their places or must be replaced by other valued ones.
Can I get any advice here how to order it because I could not find anything about MQ´s yet?

Thanks a lot --- arne.

Hi Arne,
Tim is away playing gigs at the moment, He'll be back tomorrow.
To answer your question, I would recommend a V in the bridge and IV in the neck, they sound gorgeous. The stock wind should be perfect for you 8.1K in the bridge and 6.8K in the neck.
You can order them on the online store, or phone us and order them.
You won’t be disappointed!

Thanks

Steve - thank you very much.

I didn´t want to exclude anyone of the BKP-team but Tim was the only one of you I had contact with so far and I´m not familiar with your personal structure yet.

I´ll try to complete the order form tomrrow - if there´s anything not being clear I´ll call Monday.
Must the pots be changed?

So long --- arne.

Im nothing to do with BKP - but I have an MQ in the neck of my geetar - and all i can say is, for blues/rock these are the ultimate pup - open and wide like single coils but toasty and smokey as well with the near power output of a HB.

IMO you will not be disappointed with the tone!

I have 2 MQ's in different guitars, one neck and one bridge.  I love the sound of them (but I also am a big P-90 fan!).  I have the 250K pots on them (this is the value Gibson used with the P-90's).
So many pickups, so little time

What will happen if you just leave the 500k pots in the guitar?

Changing the pots on my hollow body is going to be nightmare.

hi Arne, I did get your mail and tried to reply but they kept getting bounced back so I gave up in the end.
Just for future reference, I do reply personally to all mail......if you don't get a reply it's probably because of the above mentioned problem.

Re:MQs, Alnico V bridge and ALnico IV neck is how we're making them as standard now and is the best sounding combo IMHO. 500k pots sound great with them too so no need to change them.

Hi Tim -

I´m used that you use to reply immediately - your service always is outstanding - so that I became suspicious about an internet problem and went the forum way. Seems I´ll have to check my system.

It´s fine that you consider the 500k pots can remain. The whole day I´ve been  thinking about how to avoid that everytime I want to change the pickups I´d have to change the pots, too. I´m sure you know the difficulties to fix them onto this dubious metal plate in a way that the nut is fixable from the topside of the guitar without the pots coming to far over the top surface. When I installed the Mules I had to repeat the procedure several times by try and error ´til it worked. O.k. - problem solved.

If there´ll be questions with the order form I´ll mail directly to you and add my FAX-nr. so that the communication will work.

Thank you --- arne.
