I've been expecting this to happen...
« on: July 18, 2009, 11:21:04 AM »
I  got layed off work yesterday. Business has ground to a halt and  the firm I work for are 100 grand down a month.

Now what?

I feel your pain  :(

I have 2 older brother, my oldest brother has been made redundant 3 time in the last 9 month. My other brother was made redundant in January, I was made redundant in April. An entire generation of my family put out-of-work... and the banks (who caused all this sh*t) are giving them self f*cking bonuses

Sorry to hear this guys :(

I seem to be reasonably safe so far, but I've had it twice in the past, so I know what it's like (and that no-one is actually safe...)

Sorry to hear it Johnny, what kind of work were you doing? I was laid off twice this year, decided to re-skill as a Plumber and if you go with the right company, the government will pay for it. I had the choice of Plumbing, Plastering, Carpentry and Electrician. I'd have preferred Carpentry but Plumbing gives better constant work prospects and better money.

Might be worth looking into mate!  :)

P*sser Johnny. I came close to losing mine a year ago and have been made redundant twice and got a pittance of a pay off each time.  The retraining idea seems like a good one to me.

Sorry to hear that Johnny.  :(

Did the compensation for your accident get sorted out?

...and the banks (who caused all this sh*t) are giving them self f*cking bonuses

Let's not use the term "the banks" too loosely.  The senior executives at the banks are giving themselves big f*cking bonuses.

My brother has worked for NatWest/RBS for 26 years - he doesn't get big money or bonuses, and he came within a whisker of being made redundant last week.  Whereas the new chief exec stands to make a £6m bonus if he (ever) gets the share price up to 78p.  The ordinary staff are as pissed off with the situation as everyone else.

Yes, by 'the banks' I mean those in control of the bank, who are making money from sacking their own workers
In the same way when someone says 'the government' they don't mean junior civil servants

NB 'the banks' and 'the government' are (in some cases) one and the same, even though they are trying there best to make it look otherwise

That sucks mate, sorry to hear it. Is there much work going around for you? I assume if your firm are down then others in the same industry must be too. (Haulage, right?)

No  its dead,  there have been 1000's  layed off so there isn't  much prospect of  finding a similar  job.
