NAD!! Marshall Vintage Modern
« on: July 22, 2009, 09:15:08 AM »
morning boys and girls, how are you all today?

my internet was playing up over the last couple of weeks.  before that i had been e-mailing Martin at MJW about having power scaling installed in my Genz Benz El Diablo   but, while i was offline, this little beauty came along, and i'm afraid i just couldn't resist!  :)

Nice catch!

I owned a 2266 and it was just great for Ballsy Marshall Gain Tone!

If only they'd come out with a second Master for the low gain mode so you could make up lost volume, it would be a great 2Ch amp. I need cleans so it had to go :(

Hope you're gonna enjoy the ride as much as I did!!

hmm, that's an interesting thought, i wonder would it be possible to have a second master volume added?

Hang out in the Vintagemodern forum, the maker of the amp hangs out there a lot and he's really passionate about his amp designs. He was pretty defensive regarding the 2nd master though, not sure why, but it shouldn't be that complicated, one more pot and a relay?

It would add a great deal to the amp's utility.

I really love that blue tolex on the VMs.

I've never played one but I reckon I'd probably like it.

Does the VM or the Mode Four have more gain?

Cool, I gigged a Marshall combo in the late 80's for a couple of years. Always got a good, aggressive tone from it  :D

the master volume of the vintage modern is a PPIMV control (a dual potentiometer wired between the phase inverter outputs and the power tubes)
an extra regular master volume would be interesting, but not wired as a PPIMV
