Cheers Mod!
Well the set I have are with Gold covers, with one row of poles showing. I didn't actually buy them for this guitar, they were for my first self-build project but I seem to have messed the neck pocket up rather badly. So whilst I am waiting to earn some money for some more wood (or maybe just some epoxy to try and put it right) I took the stock Rockfields out and chucked my 'Bombs in for a laugh. Considering I have a trans-grey burst over quilted maple top and aged nickel hardware, the gold pups actually look rather nice!
For my next set though I am getting normal, uncovered Pups. I know that sometimes the sound can be affected ever so slightly, so my next set are going to be as unadulterated as possible. I am aiming for my next Axe to be made from Korina, body and neck. not sure whether to go Ebony or Rosewood for the fingerboard but am defo going Painkiller as I want to get that nice middy, almost "Djent" tone.
One thing to bear in mind on the track though is that I had to work for the tone. I basically had to quad the guitars, meaning that the 2 guitar parts you hear are both doubled, otherwise it sounds a bit thin and one-dimensional. Having said that, it IS through an amp Modeler, rather than an actual amp, so don't take the quadding to mean that the Pups aren't as awesome as they sound. It's just that any amp modeller (POSSIBLY with the exception of the Axe FX which I have heard amazing things about) is always going to make your guitar sound thinner and, dare I say, a little soulless compared to plugging in to a proper rig.
Nailbombs will always be my staple pup, unless like previously mentioned I want to achieve something different. They really are very versatile, you don't have to be an Adam D nut, shredding and chugging along to your fave metal band. They do pristine cleans and awesome Blues crunch too, along with a plethora of other sounds. They really are my fave Pup so far.
If there's anything else I can help with please don't hesitate to ask.
Taff - Did you d/l that patch? How are you getting on with it? :)
