Got a new Strat, and modded it straight away :)
« on: July 27, 2009, 04:54:58 PM »
Well a couple of weeks ago I decided I really needed a Strat. Wanted a sweet vintage sounding blues machine without spending $1200. So I decided on a MIM Standard Strat. Then decided to add a loaded pickguard with Lindy Fralin Blues Specials (sorry no BKP's), CTS pots including blender pot, Switchcraft switch and jack, Fender Deluxe Locking tuners and a Graphtech Tusq nut.
Here is how it started out.

With all the mods done. The thing sounds and plays friggin fantastic. Here are a bunch of pics of what I did to it.
Old nut removed

New nut installed

Old pickguard

Hey somethin's missing

New loaded pickguard

New pickguard installed

Definately like the look of the white pickguard, pickups and knobs better than the original parchment stuff. Looks very Jimi'ish.

very nice... is that trem block steel? you want to put a steel one on there if not :)

I think it's steel. It's heavy. This is an 09 and Fender upgraded the trem block to a heavier one this year. As for changing the neck and body.... I don't think so.

That's my favourite Strat, looks great.

And a superb use of the ironing board!

White Strat body and maple neck/fingerboard parts build for me, I think... but BKPs!

Thanks guys. As much as I love BKP's the Fralin's are supurb. They gave me the exact tone i wanted in this guitar. They have that wonderful true hot vintage Stat tone. Beautiful warm, glassy cleans and great blues tone with a little overdrive.

That's a very tasty guitar indeed and I completely agree about the white pickguard looking so much better against the body than the original off-white one.  I'd have gone for vintage Kluson type tuners but that's just the luddite in me.  Lovely job, you should be very pleased.
