It sounds alright, very compressed and typically old-school in a SE EL84 way.

With a beefier output transformer it would sound a bit punchier and less compressed.  I'd wager that it doesn't have a choke either - I always use them as I think you get better clarity with the amp cranked.

I'm surprised its taken Marshall this long to get on the small valve amp bandwagon, I'm sure they'll sell VERY well if they're in the £300 range.

I'm just amazed that they didn't do what I have been on about all along
Put the equivalent of a Marshall 2203 (JCM 800) preamp with master volume into a 5W or 10w SE power section and & use big enough transformers and have a legion of home players fall over themselves to buy them
Be ideal for a small studio......

Hey Ian - can you make me something like that ?
Can I have it in the next few weeks

ha ha, its on the way and will most certainly be with you soon rather than later.  At the risk of sucking my own dick, I'd say the amp I've built for Jonathon sounds a million times better than that Marshall 5w combo.

That Bonamassa clip just seems a perfect way to demonstrate that the amp can't hold its own volume wise against a loud drummer

Is it just me that thinks the Bonamassa clip is shitee?

He sounds SO much better than that normally.  Not sure why he's promoting that little box of toss.

Wow- he doesn't think much of rock palast does he!!

"I refused the broadcast because of many reasons.. One and the biggest being that Rock Palast wanted us to just throw the gear up and go without a proper sound balance..  I  do not work that way, nor should any band.  Two there was an under current of money being exchanged between the promoter and the the rock palast people that seemed very suspect to me.. Three  thier attitude  of arrogance  and animosity I found somewhat unproductive.  I am very sorry and I shelter all the blame but my integrity still means something and I will not be bullied by thugs who think they are  star makers...  Yesterday was the most stressful day in recent memory..  I am very disappointed in WDR and rock palast ..  A hallowed institution needs a make over in my humble opinion.  Give me the job as producer..  I will totally rock!! and do if for free just to make sure the franchise doesent fall into the wrong hands.    I would assume that a honored institution would work in a more professional manner..  end of story..  "
I think I hate being indecisive.

IMO the quality of the recording is very poor. Sounds like a bootleg but it shouldn't  :(
He's got better tone than that, even when using the 'small' setup (Marshall Vintage Modern).

I just get annoyed with Marshall.  They could produce some really good stuff, at a good price, yet they just pile 'em high with tat and trade on their heritage.

It grinds my gears.

+1 but with a range of gain from Plexi through 2203 to SLO and easily biased for a choice of power tubes.  8)
