Afghan Dave's NGD - custom red Feline / ESP hybrid
« on: August 19, 2009, 09:18:27 PM »
We assembled a guitar for Dave from some parts we had waiting for a good home
Was an old ESP neck that hadn't ever  been used and a mahogany body I built 15 years ago

Added some BKPs - warpig HB and Sinner single, a Floyd and a lick of paint and here she is

And the cat was determined to make my job of photographing the guitar all the more difficult:

Apparently he was tired of Dave saying that the guitar was the dogs boll*cks and wanted to show the cats balls instead
Thankfully we refrained from taking the shot when he lifted his tail :?

He's more of a bluegrass player - came complete with built in fingerpicks (the sharp variety)

Well, I've finally got home with the new addition to the Afghan guitar family... It's so late I can't really plug in and play but I have managed to give her a little shake down.

What a great tone.. really meaty yet harmonics jump out effortlessly.

Seems like the damn cats stolen all the limelight here  :(  ... I'm gonna bring her along on Sunday.. (Jon can bring the cat)

Yup, it's the same "raspberry sorbet" red - it's a strange colour that can look very dark blood red or perlescent under different lights.

The Feline "Alley Cat" (because it is a hybrid of wild feline parts) is a REALLY live sounding guitar - its got an immediate attack on the notes but no sharpness plus bags of sustain.

The Sinner works fantastically well in the neck - I'm not a purist about traditional single coils and the Sinner is far from traditional (the single coil equivalent of a Warpig). It has a articulate warmth & defined snap which works very nicely for my taste.

I think the age of the mahogany body adds to the mojo - it being originally found in a dusty box under the Feline work bench needing a loving home.

Air dried for 15+ years!  :P
