Versatile humbucker needed for strange tele!
« on: November 03, 2005, 10:05:14 PM »
Hey guys! I was hoping for a little advice on what pickup is for me. I have a very strange squire tele (i have attached a photo). I also have a marshall avt 100 watt. I am looking for a bridge humbucker as I love everything about my guitar except for the distorted tones. I usually play heavy rock with it, mostly modern bands so im looking for a pickup that will give me a modern rock sound. I do play clean alot as well so a good clean tone would be important to me. My amp settings for distortion are usually Bass 7 Mids 4 and Treble 8-9. I would like something with a very chunky heavy sound with lots of clarity as i tend to get quite muddy tones at present. At present i have a coil tap installed and  was wondering if i would be ablr to use this with a bare knuckle pickup? As i love its versatility I have read nothing but good about bare knuckle so i hope someone can help. Im fortunate enough to live in barnstaple so theres lots of places to get these fab pickups. If anyone can reccomend something i would be most grateful.if more info is needed please ask.  thanks for your time. :D[/img]

Welcome to the forum. :drink:

I think you would like a set of Crawlers. They are great for coil taps (so I'm told). They are excellent for heavy rock and you won't believe the clean sounds, very clear and articulate. The midrange can make them sound almost strat-like.

cheers Ratrod thanks for the welcome. I shall check them out!
I've always been a big fan of Tom morello and matt bellamy from muse. I love their tones. Is there something in the BK range with that kind of tone? If anyone else has any suggestions for a pickup please share the knowledge! thanks

It's a bit of an old track by me. I've been adjusting alot since then but it should give you a rough idea on how these pickups do Tom Morello. They can sound alot like that blue guitar with the EMG's in it.

Cheers Ratrod for the samples.they sound great! especially cochise.I see what you mean about the bass hum. Tone sounds great though! I went to try out some of the BK pick ups at Music Live in Birmingham on fri. I tried out the crawler and the warpig, absolutely loved both of them. So I think I shall be very happy with getting either of them,or both! so unless anyone can suggest anything else then i think im ready to buy. cheers guys. :D

I was wondering if the crawler would still be good for heavier stuff. having read more about the crawler it seems to be mainly used for blues type playing.would i be better getting maybe the warpig for heavier stuff? i dont really play any blues.also pretty much everything I play is very modern. I use the guitar above for mainly stuff like, finch, thrice, explosions in the sky and oceansize. im just worried that if I go for the crawler it wont have me covered for really heavy sounds? I mostly play riffing type stuff but im not much of shredder so solos are quite rare. i alsmost wish BK made some bad pickups to make it easier to choose! thanks

Don't worry. I can get Metallica and Rammstein out of the Crawlers.
