« on: September 08, 2009, 11:59:29 PM »
Found a Chadwick single channel, early production run, custom tolex. Marshall style head box. I'll have it in my hands by the end of the week! Pic comin' then.
Been looking for "the one" forever, this one is dead mint and I got it cheap!!  :D

Looks like this one, but is dark green leather-ish tolex. 50 watts JMP-ish with two 5881's.

This one? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dYXPrba3tqw

The video was the last production run Chads... The one I got was the first run single channel. Goes from great cleans up to higher gain stuff. Also has a powered loop you can patch and really OD the preamp into the power amp.

Are these Kranks any good...I haven't read up on them or anything, but they seem just like a fairly standard  marshall copy, is that fair to say?

They're the anti-Marshall!!!

Tony Dow (Tony Krank) of the White Demons, was a popular amp-modder. Started an amp company. Chadwick is an Alan Chadwick design, yeah, fairly Marshall-y. Except it's got 5881's and is very aggressive, and is very awesome clean as well.
The Revolution was Tony's design, very aggressive. Current production Plus models are 120 watts with 6550's. The new 1980 replaces the Chadwick in the lineup. Two 6550's for 80 watts. Very very cool amp.

One day when I have time I'll tell you the Kerry King Krank sig model story...... Bottom line is he never brought the prototype back to Tony, after using it on tour he gave it to Marshall and said "build me this amp"... But that's only half the story!!!!

That's sort of the joke around the factory......"What the heck would we have called it anyway?....No way could it be the Kerry King Krank..."

Yeah... right...

funny...haha.
i dunno man, i dunno what to say to that...
Kerry is famous for using jcm800's right? the KK is an 800 based circuit with a noise gate and a KT88's (something like that right? i tried to find a few schematics but no luck). KT88's are a common mod, and the noise gate is a mod you can get on a few amps. FJA mods do it to 5150's.
In any case, if Kerry had the prototype and decided he'd rather get another company to build him the same amp like you suggest, i have to wonder why he would decided to do that. is there something he didnt like about krank? the amp? the people?

at least it means no Krank amp ever got made with tribal tattoo style graphics on it. i think the combo of sick tribal and krank aesthetics would look like puke.
