Now you're putting words in my mouth!! :P
Marshall paid him for his name.
Krank was used as a bargaining chip.
Marshall was not going to make him a sig amp. KK approached Tony and asked him to build him one. (Oh the tales I could tell about that amp!!!)
He loved it, and did a tour with it... then "disappeared."

Hahaha
Check your facts my friend. I have a unique perspective on the situation, because I was there......

Then enlighten us and don't tell people to "check their facts" when they weren't there.

Because at the moment it sounds as if Krank took Kerry's JCM800 and built him an amp which - surprise - sounded like a JCM800 with a different nameplate? And what then? Kerry went to Marshall and Marshall built him a new JCM800 based on a Krank JCM800-Clone based on Kerry's old JCM800 called "the beast"????

....that and the fact he is loyal to his Marshalls....

That's the way it goes in the business. I'm sure Marshall did nothing reprehensible. Kerry King was a little underhanded.... but if you're Marshall and KK brings you an amp and says "build me something that sounds just like this or I'm going to endorse Krank" what are you going to do? You're going to tear it apart and find out what makes it tick, and build him his dang amp.

i dont mean to sound like im putting word in your mouth, i just didnt understand what you meant about money.

and Kerry King can't get a one-off amp from marshall? does he have to have a stock amp? will marshall not mod amps for dudes like that?

I mean, could he not of just asked marshall to mod him an amp? rather than go to krank and back to marshall?
I guess if he got a sig line out of it then he gets more cash, but then i imagine the aim would have been to get that cash via a sig line. If he wanted a modded marshall with KT88's and a Gate he could have gone to a lot of places right? does he use his signature amp live? did he like the tone or was it all about putting his name on a marshall product for money?

Alex - Sorry to have offended you. In my country when we type "hahaha"..... and use terms like "my friend" it means "I'm kidding around with you" and "I don't mean any harm"....

Only KK can answer that for sure, but he really digs Marshall and wanted his own sig line, so it appears as if it was ego + cash for sure.

Reality is, all things being equal, you'd rather have your name on a Marshall than a Krank, right? And if they've got deeper pockets, well that pretty much seals the deal.

PS- no offense taken.

This makes no sense whatsoever. Kerry is known for using a Noise Gate and EQ with a vintage 2203, surely Marshall approached him and said 'you want more money, we want more money, why dont we just bung them in the box and add KT88's?'

That white Krank looks nice tho, bet it sounds good.

I'd like to try one of the Kerry King Marshalls tho, see if its more mean sounding than my JCM800/Blackstar combo.

who did you offend?

it all seems a bit complex, if he wanted a modded marshall he could have got one, i don't really know why he'd step to marshall and say 'give me a mass produced signature amp' and marshall would complain. does he REALLY need the cash?

talking of signature amps... the Krankenstein Jr... i always wondered if Dime ever played one. his sig is on the front panel right?

Ha!
Sounds crazy but it's true. The EQ and noise gate on the 2203 is a Tony Dow "invention."
The KK amp is Marshall copying Krank copying Marshall.....

Dime never even played the production Krankenstein Series One.... just the prototype!
He had his wall of Revolution Series One dummies, but the only amp blastin' was hiding.
The Krankenstein name and Dimebag sig. business is licensed through his family.

Here's his prototype Krankenstein, the only Krankenstein he played through:

The JR line was not around at all while Dime was alive.
As a matter of fact, I played the first JR prototype. Tony was really excited about it. It did sound very cool, and I would not have guessed it was 25 watts - very loud!

aaah

cool.

i just wondered, cos i doubt its just Krank that do that, putting the names of dead musicians on gear they've never played.
I tried to look at the Stein Jr and thought i could make out his sig on the panel, and ive seen the video of him playing an amp @ krank while its being tweaked. so if thats the prototype then whatever. Even if its done through his family, he never played the Jr version of the krankenstein. I just wonder what he would have thought of it, if he would have put his name to it if he was alive... or if any other dead musician would do the same if they were alive. Krank likes making money on sig lines too i guess. just like marshall.

in that video... i THINK there is a part where dime says something like he never thought he could get the high gain tone he used to get from solid state amps out of a tube amp. that he thought tube amps where all... a bit softer... thats not a quote, i think it was the general point he was making... that actually shocked me a bit. I think really high gain tube amps still have better tone that solid state amps doing a similar thing. which made me think... although dime was a rad player, just how much DID he know about his amps, and other amps on the market... you know? he went a while using the same stuff. if it aint broke don't fix it. so seeing that video of him was a bit strange

Haha...
Never intended for it to be "Krank vs. Marshall".
Krank sells amps, the family makes money....
That's the way it goes in any industry. I wonder how much Dale Earnhardt made last year?
Wonder how much Sublime made in radio royalties?
