New to BKPs - help needed

Hi, this is my first post on the forum so please be kind  :lol:

I have a Fernandes Ravelle in honey sunburst, and it's crying out for a pair of zebra pups and I'd quite like to try some BKPs as I've never used them before. The Ravelle comes with an SD JB in the bridge and a '59 at the neck, and I've used this combo in other guitars for since the '80s. I find these to be quite versatile, can get a range of classic through to modern sounds with them. I use a Fender HRD for the cleans, and a variety of dist pedals for the OD/Dist tones although I may be going to a dual amp setup soon.

Sound wise, I'm into things like the New York Dolls, Lenny Kravitz, Aerosmith, you get the idea. Nothing too high gain although I do use a Digitech Hardwire Metal Distortion when needed.

Can suggest where to start my BKP journey?

If you like the JB/59 combo, then a set of Holydivers would be the closest BKP equivalent.  Might be a good place to start?

I can see the BKPs are named after certain players/sounds they are designed to emulate, but that doesn't make it easy when you're new to the system. I'm trying to work around which one is which atm. I see Holy Divers=Viv Campbell/Dio, the same period the JBs came from.

I like the versatility of the JB/'59 set, although I know a few people find the JB to be a little too hot and mid rangey. That works well with my Ravelle though as it doesn't have a lot of mid for an LP style guitar. I like a lot of different tones from vintage through to contemporary so a highly versatile pup is pretty much a necessity for me.

The Rebel Yells may also be worth a look?

Also, don't get too hung up on the names.  They just give you an idea of the sort of thing they're good at but not ONLY good at  ;)

Funny you should say that as I've just been listening to the Rebel Yell demos and was mighty impressed. Steve Stevens has been one of my fave guitarists since Rebel Yell came out so I was bound to look. From the clips, I'm much preferring the RYs to the HDs although I worry about how they will deal with the need for more vintage tones.

I'm thinking that really what I'm after is leaning toward the vintage hot, I like the RYs but I think they may be too modern for what I'm looking for.

What would people recommend for that Joe Perry type tone?

Which Joe Perry tone?  He uses P90 Les Pauls, Humbucker Les Pauls, Teles, Strats, Gretschs etc!

Is there a particular song you're thinking of?

id guess the joe perry tone refers to the les paul tone.. his boneyard sig has burstbuckers... so maybe mules??

Being a bit vague there, but yes the Les Paul tone. I'll check out the mules, cheers

I've never seen him play the BoneYard LP, so Iwouldn't say it was indicative of his tone personally......
