Anyone else finding firefox to be slow and cr@p all of a sudden
« on: September 27, 2009, 10:07:32 PM »
On a mid-power laptop typing takes a few seconds to buffer, videos load fine but freeze and the sound goes off every 10 seconds, scrolling takes about 5 seconds to wake up and work etc etc etc

Chromes fine and firefox is fine on my (considerably more powerful) PC, but its $%&#ed on here (currently on laptop, on chrome)

firefox always takes a while to load on my pc, but I blame my aol software for that. Once it loads, though, it's fine. :)

interesting, cause I only use firefox, are you sure you don't have any trojan apps clogging up your app or something similar?

Last week my internet was very slow. It was my provider, they slowed it down and tried to sell me faster internet.

You should try moving to the UK.
Because of the privatization of the telecommunications network there has arisen a market of providers deliberately providing sub-par services in order to rack up profits over the long term by gradually increasing the speed cap on household broadband lines (at a cost to the recipient of the service.).
Not only that but the lines themselves are outdated and should have been replaced with fibre optics by now, as was the initiative before the privatization.
As it is only Cable and Wireless (who later changed their monicker to NTL before being absorbed into Virgin Media, who still cap their household lines) have done anything to upgrade to fibre optics and they only cover a very limited area mainly centred around major cities, leaving people in smaller towns with a broadband provider running traffic through them but not allowing them to use the sevice.
Here there will always be faster internet and it will always be stupidly expensive.
/rant.
I too use chicken as a measurement.

I'm guessing these videos are flash based? on my old machine, whenever firefox crashed it was flash related, have you tried firefox's safe mode?

firefox on vista hasn't crashed at all yet, had 2 minor problems but they are probably addon related

speaking of flash, everyone make sure yours is up to date, it's the best way to infect someone's computer if they have windows and browsers up to date, PSI secunia is a really good program to make sure you got everything patched and up to date

Youtube, so yeah.

I uninstalled a bunch of cr@p that the laptop came with (why a new LT has to come out of the box with more software than I ever install on a new desktop I have no idea), since its a bit old and I cant be bothered formating it and its better now. I think its a memory and memory management thing. (given that my much faster ram and more of it 64 bit desktop isnt having a problem)

@Maverick: You don't have to tell me about the privatisation of public services.

I could make this a long rant but instead I'll just say: It didn't work out as well as they thought it would.

'They' meaning our shitee for brains govt.
