Hi, which 3 pickups for my Epiphone Les Paul Black Beauty?
« on: September 30, 2009, 12:28:34 PM »
Hi, I'm thinking of changing pickups for my Epiphone Les Paul Black Beauty , but I have no idea what pickups to get. However, since I can install 3 pickups on my Black Beauty, I want to make my guitar as versatile as possible. My influences include Gary Moore, Slash, CC Deville, Zakk Wylde, Paul Gilbert, Steve Vai and Yingwie Malmsteen. I would also like to do some hard core grinding on the guitar if possible. I would really appreciate any suggestions given.

You sound alot like me buddy! I put three different Bareknuckles into my Epiphone Les Paul, and we share quite a few of the same influences!

I got a Cold Sweat in the bridge (to cover my classic rock to metal, very Thin Lizzy)
A Mississipi Queen in the middle (it's a P90, so anything bluesy/single coil sounding)
and a Riff Raff in the neck (I love this thing! It has a really full, clear tone, think intro to Sweet Child O Mine)

heres me using the middle one (mississipi queen)

and the bridge (Cold Sweat)

Second video is a little quiet, but if you hire the speakers up you'll hear.

Anyway, I'm not saying go exactly with what I got! Though I think the Cold Sweat is definitely something for you to think about, everyone here will be able to reccomend others, just thought I'd let you hear what a Black Beauty sounds like with BKP's! You won't be dissapointed. So much clearer than the stock Epi alnico classics.

Ive just today shipped off my 3 Hum SG.. it is just something i could never get just right..

i looked into it a lot, and the way to deal with it seems to be either... Hum P90 P90.. or Hum P90 Hum.. configs.. the HHH

in the end i just didnt want to have to spend the best part of £300 on pickups for one guitar.

Hey Mr Coneman, I checked out your videos on Youtube and all I can say is you're a much better player than me! I love the way you play and how the misisippi sounds on your les paul, but I would prefer something a bit more classic eighties sounding on my middle pickup.  After checking out some of the sound demos here and thinking thru , I think I'm getting something mellow for the neck pickup (think Gary Moore Still Got The Blues), and for the middle pickup something for me to play classic eighties rock songs and metal stuffs for the bridge pickup. I'm thinking of mules for the neck pickup and something along the lines of Miracle Man for the bridge pickup, for the middle pickup I have no idea what to get yet. But these are only in theory, I dunno if it will work and I need your advice. And I have no idea how the pickups will sound when combine together because the pickups I get are gonna be so different from each other.

Yo, thanks for the kind words  :D

I had the very same problem at first, I wasn't sure how each pickup would compliment each other, and I didn't want any drastic volume drops or anything when I switched pickups.

For a classic 80's rock sound, I think the Rebel Yell pickup would have that covered, or the Cold Sweat, I'm not sure about either of those pickups in the middle position though..hmm.

You know you can e-mail or telephone Tim from Bareknuckle, and describe the sort of sounds you want, and he will perscribe just what you need! Including reccomending the best types for your guitar, and the best three that will fit together, if you don't get the advice you need from the guys on here, I suggest that!

Hey Mr Coneman, I was considering the Rebel Yell for covering eighties songs too, but I saw someone post something about the pickup being too trebly and stuffs. So I'm still considering....Anyway, thanks for the recommendations and suggestions, I'm gladful for it.
