The new Nighthawk is more of a mix of the original Blueshawk and Nighthawk. Very nice looking guitar. I'd buy one if I wanted something classy looking for a Jazz/Blues gig or something like that.

I want gibson to bring back the superstrat that they did in the '80s (can't remember the name but it looked like a rickenbacker that had been built for some hair metal/shredder - type person.).

Like this one :Gibson M3

as opposed to the Gibson U2

I never really got the Nighthawk either...  Although it went up in my estimation after appearing on the back of a Joan Osbourne album.  At least, I think it was a Nighthawk...

Isn't the new one basically a BFG with strat layout knobs :?

I really do quite like the idea of the original's pickups though, wonder if it would all work out though

The M3 is the beast, thanks, Feline and Afghan.

Unfortunately the Epiphone version just doesn't have the same vibe, though I do like the lightning bolt inlays.

Why did they take such an interesting and cool design and spoil it with mild and unnecessary cosmetic changes?

It's not like I have money for new guitars anyway (I still haven't got any further in finishing off the Columbus telecaster I've been working on.
I too use chicken as a measurement.

yeah, but what is wrong with that!!  i think this could be a great gibson design if they priced it cheaper.  The things i like about nighthawks are the same reasons it didnt sell.  i think this could work!

i have always loved the nighthawks - but that just has none of the features that made it so different to every other gibson in the first place... a nighthawk in shape only.

still nice though ;)

Absolutely, I completely ballsed up by not buying Marauder's when he sold it. Loved the shape, the pups and the sound.

This is mine ...

I bought it new in the mid-90s.

The range of sounds is incredible ... everything from powerful rock through to crisp & delicate.  I recently had it attended to by Dr Robert who got rid of the sticky neck problem that had plagued it from day 1, and did a full set-up on it too, so now it plays beautifully too.  Suffering from a bit of orange peel on the front, but it's a Gibson, what do you expect?

And no - that's not an advert, I'm just sharing!

i like the pickup configuration, though i'd want that pickup slanted the other way... what type of music does that suit? i know personally i'd like it the other way to get tighter lows and more rounded highs.

Actually... seeing it again today, I think the new one looks good. I always like that pickup config. Still a lot of money though... and I think I'd prefer a Feline.

Chambered body???

I don't know, I think this chambering is done way too much by Gibson. There must be some difference between small weight relief holes/larger electronics cavities and this almost semi-hollow construction.
