Finally got to watch it, I do like this Phil X bloke, he makes me laugh/smile... :D

Yep, a fat sounding strat... but like others, I'm wondering how much the amp is contributing in this clip - my IT'd Roadworn is sounding a lot like that through Vox models on my modeller (especially if I restrain myself from adding treble that doesn't exist on the original amps). And when the ITs were in my CIJ strat they sounded even more like that.

Anyway, off to watch more Phil X clips...

I love watching the Phil X clips; he's a great player and singer, very entertaining! Watched a load last night, seems to be able to get a great tone out of anything :)

Ah it sounds sweet. I'm still contemplating picking up another mexican fender and outfitting it with lace sensors a la billy corgan. Just need to pick out a snazzy colour combination.

Seafoam green with a pearloid scratchplate always looks great! I want one of those Tom Delonge strats, its the perfect one for me.

Trying to find a seafoam green strat or body (NOT surf green) is a bitch unless you order from Warmoth. I wish I could afford one.  :(

I've really come round to strats recently after years of never truly understanding them. i think they are the best guitar for lead.

happy to see phil x back

You seem to be forgetting about Les Pauls though :P

great clip

i hadn't forgotten about les pauls, or the other guitars one can play cool leads on.. indeed i really enjoy playing my agile. still stand by my statement though (IMHO at least), but it is true pauls can be a far more versatile guitar - especially in stock form

I don't know about the "best" guitar for lead, but a lot of my favourite guitar solos - Blackmore, Trower, Roth, Hendrix - were played on Strats, that's for sure.  :)
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM

I think my favourite clean/rhythm tone was done on a strat - Little Wing. Not sure what gear was used exactly but it sounds so good.

Brazilian Rosewood is now impossible to import into the EU.

As of when? Can't find any details of a recent change, and obviously if that's the case, it hasn't been for long.

Does it only apply to things that have been manufactured after a certain date and only for commercial use/sale?

The Cites website suggests an awful lot of paperwork already which simply gets ignored. IE, every time anyone with pretty much any Gibson/Martin etc from the 50's or 60's crosses a border he needs export/import licenses from both nations...

Hell, if you want to take your Rosewood McCarty to Ireland for a jaunt you need a license from both the UK and Republic of Ireland, but we know you wouldn't bother and nobody would give a shit.

- I did a bit of research after reading this yesterday and spoke to a few guys who are regularly going from country to country with 50's guitars.

It's all Braz I believe, nfe.

I know a guy who has tried to personally import a new PRS with a Brazilian Rosewood fingerboard from the US.  He has all the CITES paperwork, and I mean EVERYTHING from source to PRS, and he has tried to work with the official channels to bring it in.  They won't allow it legitimately.  Not at all.

Within the EU I think it's OK, as it's already here...

I have a hard time believing that customs check guitars to make sure the rosewood isn't Brazilian - surely if you don't make any fuss over the guitar being a Brazilian rosewood PRS there wouldn't be any problem.

I'm only going by what I've been told!

I think the problem is that if they DO check it, and find it's Brazilian Rosewood, they can confiscate the guitar and fine you?  Something like that anyway.

It's a big gamble I guess, and if you've got a guitar playing customs office checking the package...

Crivens.

I wonder if they're being more vigilant. My friend - one of the guys I spoke to yesterday - is Bryan Adams' guitar tech, he takes two '56 D28s and a Brazilian rosewood Moon dreadnought around the world all the time without any paperwork so he says. I certainly know a lot of folks who regularly buy and sell vintage guitars from the states.

Obviously the likes of the Rolling Stones continuously tour with old guitars too, ZZ Top, pretty much any older folky etc.

I thought it would only apply to guitars being manufactured currently.

It has been the case for quite some time though that crossing borders with anything at all (picks, bridge pins, nuts...)made from tortoiseshell or ivory could see you in a prison, never mind with a fine.
