I think you would like Sidewinders, if you have the patience to wait for them to appear. The highs are a bit bright until broken in (a bit of a task itself) though.

Pairing them up, for the thickness, attack and depth of bass of the V30, and the tightness, mids and clarity of the k100 is a force to be reconned with.

worst pun ever.

is that combo any good for non-brootz?

I imagine so. I dont play with all that much gain (theres a good chance its less than you! - on my pb channel 4 its about 3.5), and I very much like my cleans with it.

thanks. is it a definite modern tone, though?

I think i just need about 5 different speaker cabinets. That'd work.

Golds colour the tone a lot but in a good way. Very warm sounding from when I've heard Twinfan's
Just sooooo expensive

celestion said they'd be too similar to V30's in a mixed 4x12 and that it wouldnt do me much good to use them. (golds i mean)

true.
i asked about the K-100's as well, and they just straight up CL80 with no question.

i can't find much on the internet about that mix. i THINK scott ian from anthrax might use it.

i can't wait to try it.

Fane Alnico and a Vintage 30 work so well together, it's the only mix i've found to give 3D type tones, throughout the range of clean to distorted

Not, the k100s are good for modern metal, but dont sound modern in and of themselves imo

Complete and utter bollox.  I've had V30s and Golds and they're not even close to sounding the same!

Odd that they said that isn't it?

Seriously, they're not alike.

it is.
i would have assumed a big difference between the alnico and ceramic magnets.
even the frequency curves for both speakers on the celestion site are different... very different.

Cannabis Rex will give a very big smooth foundation. They're also quite clear, they don't add much distortion on their own. IMO they work best in combination with some more aggressive speaker; put two Cannabis at the bottom of your 4x12" and two more aggressive speakers in the top position and you should be very happy.

Or, for the ultimate metal cab, use two Eminence Black Powders in the top position and combine with something that cuts the mix well like 2 V30s in the bottom. Then blast away.
