New singer audition yesterday - watcha think?
« on: December 02, 2009, 10:02:13 AM »

We've been through a bit of a nightmare singer wise in the top40 setup.

We had found a great guy who was really nu-metal and ready to move into that direction, but he left after 2 months due to another project with professional aspirations. Then we had another guy, and for the past 6 months worked with a female singer, who was good on some songs, but really lacked the timing, feel and stage presence. But she was a friend of the drummer, so we hesitated to kick her out. After a bad gig with drastic feedback from the audience (thank god) she left on her own.

Yesterday we auditioned a new female, a maroccan with fire and loves rock (we played some Zep and GnR in the jam too), she has great presence and is really into it.

I made a recording, I gotta add that I played over a Marshall Cab with G12T75s, which I don't like very much, plus the cab was pointed directly at the recorder, so the guitar is unfortunately over present and drowns out the rest a bit.

Let me know what you think about the voice: http://www.klangforschungszentrum.de/temp/heavycross.mp3

Guitar sounds great!

What singer? :-)

Actually - thought that she sounded OK in the quieter bit but it was difficult to tell when things got a bit louder

Thanks guys. As said it's a G12T75 cab and I don't care much for it. I had to dial presence and treble way back for it to not have my eardrums die the death of fizzzz

Hmm, I mean it's just a recording. I really liked the real live experience, she was just in tune and in time, which I wasn't that used to (anymore) :O)

Ahh maybe I should post that immigrant song mp3 ...

Anyone else had a listen?

yes, sounds good, would like to see another song... She seems to have a nice voice and attitude and if she sings in tune and time, seems like way to go

Good voice, nice mixture of brightness and raunchiness.

Haven't made any, that would be a bit weird on first audition I guess ... I did ask for a BJ though :O)

But on a serious note, we got two more girls coming next Tuesday, then we'll decide. I'm pretty much set on chosing her though, due to her love for Led Zeppelin and teh rohkz in general   :good:

Sounds pretty good.  Even reminded me of Skin from Skunk Anansie in a few places.  :)

Quick update on this one, we auditioned two more girls this Tuesday.

First was lame, but the second also very good (and hot looking too). But we decided to stick with the first one as - listening to the recordings of all of them - she has a better feel and passion in her voice. Seems also to be the most straightforward and normal person (one of the others was quite girlie and a bit bitchy too).

She is also quite unexperienced, so I guess as she progresses she will become even better. Will post pics and more clips as soon as I have any.
