The Curse of Facebook
« on: December 05, 2009, 08:29:04 PM »
Just got a friend request from an old school mate - excellent, I thought.  Haven't seen or had any contact from the fella for over 20 years.

Then I clicked on his profile.

The face staring back at me was that of a rotund, middle-aged man.

What happened to us?  When did everyone get so old???

Is 38 too young for a mid-life crisis?

I still look about 16-17 at 21, so I hope I won't be one of these balding, middle aged men you describe

At 44 I know what you mean - although I may look the youngest in my class.

I think I look younger than my age, and I'm not very "mature" (in both good and bad ways).  But I'm not in contact with anyone from my schooldays (and I don't do Facebook etc) so god knows what they may look like now.

But hey, to the 20-somethings I'm probably a right old fart.  :(

I look f**kin hot... and still pull young birds & the odd old slapper.

(probably because I have a stunted level of maturity and have doggedly avoided any hint of success so I am still as hungry and naive as I was as a teenager)

Thankfully the powerful anti-depressants I'm taking have not clouded my judgement.

I don't know if you can call it a midlife crisis, but my girl was found it quite hard to turn 20. She thought she now was a grown up and should have sorted her life out.

I'm looking quite "youngish" myself (and so do a lot of my old class mates) and the students I teach are quite shocked when I tell them that I'm 30. They can't believe I'm that old  :D

i used to be quite concerned about age, much less so now i've hit 30. as long as you know how to lay it down, i don't think it matters so much these days.

anyhow, clearly from this thread 80s metal has an anti-aging effect  8)

Im 20, you all old.

Im kidding, I have long hair and always tie it back and i now have a receding hair line as a result :(

As long as I can get a great bushy beard by the time my hair goes I don't mind. But I do not want to look like devin townsend.

I don't think tying your hair back makes it recede - you might be breaking hairs by pulling them back, but it doesn't stop them growing at the root.  If you really are losing it it's probably just male pattern baldness, simple as that.

Everybody loses hairs every day (to be replaced by new ones) but if your hair's long those shed hairs are much more noticeable when you use a brush or comb!  I had long hair and got it cut because I was convinced I was starting to lose it, but that was nearly 15 years ago and it hasn't changed much, if at all, since.  It's always been very fine and thin, and maybe it's a bit thinner now, but my hairline hasn't changed and I haven't got any bald patches.  Touch wood.

i, too, look much younger than my classmates.  i have two cousins who are within 6 weeks of me age wise, and when a new girl started working with us recently she was astounded when she discovered i was the same age as them.  she thought they were at least ten years older than me!!  and that i was 7 or 8 years younger than i am :)

could the fact that they're married and i'm not have anything to do with it?  or is it just guitar that keeps us all young? ;)
