whats the best option?
« on: November 15, 2005, 11:33:27 PM »
Hailsguys
i think i“llnot have enough money to buy a TUBE head, so.. i“m thinkinh i should do the follow:
buy a GOOD distortion pedal OR A POD xT
buy a hand made ALL tUBE head(only the clean channel)(should i call it POWER?)

i“m also thinking in getting a LINE 6 combo 2x12
But my i have some bad experiences with SS combos.
i had a CRATE GX80.
and, after 1,2 hours of playing... the tone starts to deteriorate.. getting muddy and saturated.
and, after 1 or 2..maybe 3 years of use(i didn“t set the pedal and the amps volume (each one)  less than 10:00 o clock position) it starts to BLACKOUT in the middle of the rehearsal or gig.
so... its the opposite of a tube amp.the more it keeps working, the bad the tone becomes...
while the tube amp .. the less the tubes burning(excepts for a overuse of it.. of course) the better the tone becomes. Right?

so.. thats my doubt.
$%&#ing hails and thanks in advance.

yeah, that last part sounds about right. i wouldn't touch line6 amps with a bargepole, i'm guessing you're talking about the spider 2 which is a horrible amp.

just save up man, and get an all-tube amp
down from the glens came the marching men...

JP, if I could make a suggestion ...

Splawn makes an amp called the Pro Stock. It is only the gain channel of the amp I'm getting. In other words, it only has the distortion channel. I think it would be perfect for your playing style.

I would suggest something like this for your needs - why pay for an amp channel you will never use?!

I had a Flextone Original and the Flextone II, the build on the first one was good, but I wanted the new amp models of the Flextone II. The build on that was awful.....bad workmanship, poor design. It developed the same problems as your crate ( I used it to gig 3/4 times a week while at University) I threw it away and bought a Laney....not he best choice for reliability but even that was better than my Line 6. Line 6 amps are great at home, I have teh Guitar Port and it sounds fine. But I would never gig one again....

Buy Crisolas JCM 800 and he's throwing in a overdrive pedal to boost it up to the WFD tones you need. He wants £400. Just keep saving the cash JP, don't get a cheap tranny, they are shitee!
