Neck and Bridge BKP for a RG550?
« on: December 17, 2009, 05:23:00 PM »
Hello BKP forumers, I'm a nooblet here who just joined today!

Been looking at new pickups for my RG550, the stock pickups don't do this guitar any justice and I'm looking for a decent upgrade for the neck and bridge pickup. I mainly play progressive metal like BTBAM, Meshuggah, Cynic, Mastodon etc. So I'm tone wise, I'm looking for a healthy dose of mids, great for distorted rhythms (really important to me) and has tons of clarity. For leads, I like it smooth and great for cleans and such.

Can anyone recommend me a pair? If you need more information I'm happy to add more!  :)

Also, would it be better to totally gut the stock electronics (pots and wirings) and do it from scratch?

Many thanks,

Mwoit

I have a Miracle Man set and centre Slowhand in my RG550 and it does everything say, it isn't as middy as some other BKPs but it's not scooped.

I'm sure there are other options to bear in mind though.

Especially for the Mastodon sound I would go after something with more upper mids. Maybe a Painkiller?
As far as I know they mainly used a Duncan Distortions SH-6.

I can't comment on the other bands as I don't know them that well.
