There's also the Guitar Fetish and eBay approach if you can bear to wait for the right parts to come along.  You can get an offset body Xaviere guitar inexpensively here which has a Strat neck pocket:

http://store.guitarfetish.com/xvseofgu.html

then replace parts as you see fit.  It's what I've been doing and I get a real sense of satisfaction from seeing it come together as each part is located and gets installed.  Once I'm done this whole build will have cost me around £450 I think which worked out considerably cheaper than the Warmoth or USACG route.

ah! it DOES have a strat neck pocket?
I thought there was an issue with lining up the neck heel holes and the pocket.

Im really interested to see how your build turns out.

I thought that there was but I was told by wiser folks here not to be so wet and they were right.  There's a thread here about the (not quite finished) thing:

One further thing I will say for the Xaviere bodies is that the paint, though almost certainly poly, is very thin - much thinner than any Fender I've played which is probably a good thing.  I could also have kept more of the Xaviere components than I did, the stock bridge was fine for example. I wouldn't want anyone to think, just because I ended up replacing everything apart from the body and the jack plate, that the rest of the stock guitar was junk: I just had a very specific plan in mind from the outset.

Depends on your definition of "soon".....

I hope to have a couple of Teles sorted out.... I was going to say "soon" again  :? .  Hmmmm, let's say before my next birthday!

Then I have a few other bodies and things which started out as one idea and will probably end up as something completely different.  Is that procrastination or evolution?

The Fano JM6 may suit you, but it's a relic and expensive.  Depends what you're after really, or if you want to build yourself something similar:

I like the (surf?) green one. Very nice.
I think I hate being indecisive.

Who me?

That reminds me, I wanted to ask you how much your finishing guy would charge for doing Strat/Tele bodies and/or necks.  I have some I was going to oil-finish, but I'm not so keen on the idea now (probably change my mind again in a month or two).

i was responding to gwems question... because we all know you buy these bits and bobs but when was the last time we saw one come together.  i think we should see at least one xmas project completed ;)

for finishing it might be best to speak to mike direct.  Posting to me, to post to mike, to post to me, to post to you would not make much sense.  the price really depends what you want. just say i sent you

or
http://www.refinish.ltd.uk/

although i agree with twinfan - oil the necks

Thanks for the links, Wez.

I probably will try oil (or Tru-Oil) on at least one neck.  But probably not on the bodies, I like a bit of colour at the moment.

Feel like I have to get something finished now......
