It needs to be no guard with a pointy reverse headstock. Supertele's rock!

i think a guard will look better

I agree. And I still think a "split guard" would complement the firebirdish headstock

i do think the split guard is interesting... but not with this pickup choice.

maybe it will be none of the ones i have tried so far, but i dont think traditional is the way to go - although i can see the appeal.  if i get chance i will try some other tomorrow

This looks lovely! NO guard!!!

If you REALLY need one, get the traditional...

Split guard would look good with a different pickup layout. No guard looks good though.

If it had no guard then it would have to be rear routed and have a flame top imo :p

I like the way a guard ties the tele control plate in to the body. The split design looks very Firebird but too much for the smaller body I think.

Maybe you should just send me the cardboard prototypes and some blue tack then I could change it often :p

Yeps, you're right, the split guard works better with at least 2 pups - without the neck, there's something missing.

But still, IMHO, this axe really needs a pickguard to match the headstock.  What about something a bit more "custom" like then ?

As far as I'm concerned, I'd say the floyd is not vintage enough for this guitar - but YMMV of course

Mmm... About the coronet, it probably has to do with the combination of the guard taking most of the first half of the body, and the headstock shape. But the coronet's pickguard is symetrical.

you are right about the coronet thing - its just where my head went

the one you did is quite firebird, but nonreverse firebird... and the headstock is reverse firebird.   it does work really well actually.  it would suit a TOM and mini-humbucker version of this quite well
