I'm really pleased this worked out so well for you!
By the way, a GREAT thanks to you all guys - Andrew, AndyR, gwEm, PhillyQ, Elliot and anynone else I'd forgot - that helped me deciding for these pups. I was really prepared to have to send them back for something hotter, so to me it's a very pleasing surprise. And a lesson FWIW : Thou Shall Trust Tim
Also and FWIW... There was a recent thread about BKPs "hotness" where someone answered that BKPs were about tone, not output level. One thing that really surprises me is that, while they are just a tad hotter than the stock pups (one or two Kohms at best), the BGF50s are WAY louder . And it's not only a matter of perceived output - the stock pups just couldn't push my bjr into the slightest overdrive, where the BGs seem to push it, well, not quite as hard as the Crawlers (which are more than twice "hotter"), but not far.
So, ok, I'm willing to believe that 1 or 2 more Kohms are enough to make a difference for the preamp, and that this, added to improved clarity and definition, makes for the perceived increase in output level - but still, I think there's something else too. Mojo, perhaps ?
