What's best for Ibanez RG1527 // RG7321
« on: January 07, 2010, 01:04:04 PM »
Hi folks,

this is my first post and as i am not realy good in this forum writin stuff i try to get my questions short.
I m lookin for some new bridge PU's for my above mentioned guitars. I have written an e-mail to the sales addy
from bare knuckle also. But maybe you are more convincing   ... or even faster. I am just realy unpatient
and want to order my PU's as soon as possible (likely today)  :o.
Enough with this. ..
My aim is a thick Loomis-Like (Nevermore) rhythm sound though i am playin nearly every modern (brutal) metal style (and sometimes some clean (jazzy) stuff).
My 'amp' is an AxeFx (sometimes an SansAmp PSA) and i do not consider to get a 'real' amp in the future.
As for now i have exchanged the stock PU from the RG7321 and tried an D-Activator with no good results. Flubby lowend and bad midresponses.
So maybe you have some advices. I ve read some posts here and the most mentioned PU's were Nailbomb, MiracleMan and WarPig.

Maybe you can help to get me in the BKP realm

My first choice for nevermore would be a ceramic nailbomb. It will work well with an RG7321 (I have one).

Quite welcome. And welcome to the boards.

Same woods, havent got any experience of that model, I imagine the trem will brighten it up by isolating the body somewhat and generally being a big block of steel....what do you think the acoustic differences between the guitars are?

Uh ... i hope i can answer it in any way (i am german AND not real good at guitar accustics)

i just heard them both with the stock PU's and they seem to be different. As the 1527 is a Prestige i hoped they put in better stocks but seemingly they haven't. I think the sustain of the 7321 is a little bit better (in lack of other terms) ... maybe the trem blocks the sustain a little ... imo the 1527 sounds a little more muddy also ... at least i haven't played her enough to give a real solid statement about it ... maybe some one else who uses it can help out here ...

They dont have the same pickups in them - the 7321 has (the vile, woolly and sonically offensive) infinity pickups in and the 1527 has Vs, which arent much better.

If the unplugged guitars sound similar (which they may or may not, regardless of being nearly the same design) then put the same pickups in em, if you want one specific sound.

If you want some variety, what else would you like them to sound like?

Oh, fwiw with those woods, and from what I've heard of the RG 7 strings in general, all high output BKs will agree well with the guitar in general. Nothing should be too muddy or too bright in them or whatever. Its just a question of what kind of sound you want from each.

Hmm ...

today my guitar sound is much to muddy with way to much bass and less articulation in the mids (growly mids?) ... there is also a lack of presence ...

i prefer sounds from Nevermore but i wanna play also some Meshuggah, In Flames, Soilwork stuff ... and in my main band i play SludgeCore, Doom with an Pantera attitude ...

the guitars shall be able to backoff eachother on gigs so i think the should sound the same

Well I think the C-Bombs would be fine for you.

fwiw, I dont think paired up guitars should sound the same, I think that they should have enough common ground to compliment each other, but two different tones widens and thickens the sound considerably. My first choice to pair with a c-bomb would be a painkiller, second would be a miracle man. Both would also work very well with your guitars, and be good choices for the sounds you want (ane remedies for the complaints you have - theres nothing inarticulate about these pickups, and they all have plenty of low end but not the overbearing muddy cr@p that comes out of the ibanez pickups).

So you think a C-Bomb in the 7321 bridge and a MM in the 1527 bridge ??

Did i mentioned that both will get an D-Activator as a neck PU ... does this make any difference??

btw ... is that a Yoda-Avatar you have ?? My cat's name is Yoda   :D

Maybe. Given the other bands though I'd go for a painkiller over a miracle man.

The d-activator makes no difference.

Yes, its Rasta Yoda, with jack daniels and a joint. I had a cat that used to look like yoda, but he was called Zigi.

Rastayoda is kewl  ... my cat sometimes looks like him too ...

so ... as i mentioned before i am realy impatient ...

and i just wanna get some new PU's soon

the painkillers description sounds a little brit-judas-priest-nwobhm-like so it has daunted me from this PU ...

The painkiller is actually a superb general metal pickup. Its name and description put me off it for ages (I dont like judas priest, I do like most of the bands you've said) too. I heard it and felt silly. It is great for the british rock/metal thing, but through a high gain amp its a full on metal pickup with tonnes of attack, tightness and precision.

So you 've sometimes (in your other posts) recommended to choose a C-Pig ...

i mention it just to be sure that i realy get the right PU i am looking for

and before i forget ... many many thanks for your good advices so far
