Newbie Intro and thanks
« on: January 16, 2010, 06:56:42 PM »
Hey Guys,
Sorry for the sycophantic introduction but hey. Having been slightly stalker-esque and silently perusing the forums for several months I figured I should say something. That something is thanks and to shout some praise to all you guys that post often and provide such great advice and info to us less experienced players. I've finally popped the Bare Knuckle cherry and bought myself an awesome C-pig with chrome covers (cheers Kieran) and am looking forward to popping it in the bridge of my Dean Hardtail (i know the rules so pics to follow).  Here's looking to my being now more vocal in the fantastic online forum you guys have created and proudly flying the bare knuckle flag.
The question now is what neck pickup to go in my all mahogany hardtail? This is going to be my metal guitar after all The quest begins...

Hiya Rikzig,

I don't have a clue about the appropraite neck pickup for your needs ( I leave giving "Good advice " to others ) - but I did want to say "Welcome indeed " to this very genial forum.  :)

painkiller was my choice with a c-pig in bridge position, and it rocks...

That explains the disgruntled lifeguard and the distinctly aromatic scent in my nostrils.

Welcome.

The c-pig pairs well with several necks. What sounds do you want?

Top of my list would be
Painkiller
Cold sweat
Holy Diver

Depending what you want from it. All work well in mahogany.

not so sure on the HD, though... unless it's a bright and very, very middy guitar

The HD is a quite bright imo. But very organic. It would be lush in a nice piece of mahogany. I included it in case the priority for the neck was clean tones - it has the best, to my ears and is decent for leads, but not very aggressive. The CS is cleans + shred, both very well, the PK is for ripping it up, and has ok to good cleans.

Hey Rick, Glad to see you joined us on the forums.

I had that C-pig paired with a cold sweat in the neck position in my ec-1000 and it worked great with it. I also quite like the nailbomb neck which is kind of like a duncan 59 but a thousand times better if that makes any sense.

Oh and by the way MDV owned that pickup before me so thats three forumites in its life so far!

yes, very clean and uhm... maybe i wouldn't call it bright but surely has a single coilish flavour, but i found it quite scooped in an all-mahogany guitar... now i have it in an ibanez S (that's bright and VERY middy) and it sounds much better.

Its doing the rounds for sure.

Dheim, I havent had one in mahogany: I'm guessing from the largely DRM aurora. Its pretty bright in that, bu not overly so, and its a guitar with a very full spectrum response - lots of everything, bass, mids and more top end than most guitars as well. Maybe it needs a bit more top end in the guitar. Certainly the aurora has enough. Since you've had it in more than one guitar I'll defer to your experience.

Hmm had thought maybe the Cold Sweat but hadn't considered the Nailbomb. Will have a listen to some more clips. Exciting. Still trying to find 4 seconds to myself to actually get the pig in said guitar mind.

I'll certainly get some pics up for rigs and things, Hunter.

Cheers for all the welcomes!
