Import Tax from Croatia
« on: January 29, 2010, 02:58:36 PM »
I am interesting in a guitar that is currently located in Croatia, would I have to pay the regular 25% VAT and import taxes etc ?

A quick Google says they're not in the EU, so yes.  25% taxes applies.

cheers Dave, that's what I thought but the guy selling reckons there isn't and he just sent an SLO to the UK with no import duty. My guess is a dodge on the declared item value which makes me nervous.

Also, the guitar has a Brazilian roasewood neck, I am not sure about being able to import Brazilian rosewood

A quick google search turned up this page http://www.bluegrasswales.org/CITES.htm regarding import/export of materials such as brazilian rosewood.

At a quick skim-read, it seems to be saying you'd need an import permit. I think the FAQ section about halfway down should be very useful for you.

Hope that helps.
Warpigs.

I agree, I don't think they'll spend two seconds thinking what a guitar is made of.

If he managed to convince Customs a massive amp is worth less than £36, they must be idiots.

That's good advice well phrased  :D

Was very close to pulling the trigger but the threat of redundancy for the 3rd time in 3 years has made the decision for me  :(   grrrr
