I don't like Les Pauls (or any guitar) with too much bling bling. Generally I stay away from flame tops for this reason.

That said, the slightly aged and mismatched look of Pearly Gates looks oh so classy, without being too bling!

Gibson should make more Les Pauls on this general principal, although not with exact Pearly flame.

I've not seen many Gibson LPs, other than vintage guitars, that have this "old skool" look.  Most new guitars seem to be too 'perfect'.

They've really hunted down the right kind of maple for these guitars, and I understand Billy himself has been a key to getting the look right.

I'd love to find a cheap Burny/Greco/Orville/Tokai with the same sort of top.

What's the betting that hypothetical Burny/Greco/Orville/Tokai will gradually "evolve" into a second VOS Pearly Gates?  :P

After all, there are only limited numbers, so it's an investment really.  It would be UTTER LUNACY not to buy one if it crops up.   :wink:

Believe me, if I had the coin I'd have bought an Aged/Signed Pearly.

Stupid price though - I think that one at GV will sit there for quite a while.  Especially as it looks like it hasn't got much of a flame top...
