Best pickup for a Rg2228
« on: March 06, 2010, 03:43:10 PM »
Yes. My friend is considering to buy that cr@p axe. Which pickup would be the most ideal for this one. My friend has a very progressive way of playing stuff. So it needs to be both gentle and agressive :S The guitar is basswood etc. Which one would do the better job to define that low F# string?

Well, the best pickup to keep the lowest of the low tuning sounding accurate is the aftermath, but theres nothing gentle about it whatsoever. The best compromise would probably be a cold sweat.

Seconded.

Misha has a video floating around of him showing off just how defined the CS is for chords as well as really low notes; definitely maintains the clarity you seem to be looking for.

Or go lower output to a black dog. I have one in a baritone 6-string (down to A), with fat strings and long scale length (obviously!). It goes from chimey crystal cleans to great gigantic gain with no loss of definition at all.

I second the black dog for versatility. i'd also like to point out that Tim recommended a Riff Raff 8 calibrated set for my upcoming mahogany 8 string guitar (schecter c-8) which is pretty much a rockier black dog. it all depends on the scale of the RG2228.

I keep getting amazed at the cleans i get from my black dog in my ash guitar. i've never liked cleans from a bridge pickup until i played that one. and it can also be very very brutal when you want it it. it's a pickup that you have to play, it doesn't play itself.
My BK's:
Black Dog8-Riff Raff8 / Black Dog7-Mule7
C-Bomb Set / Blackhawk Bridge
Holydiver Set/ BG50 Set

Its scale length is 27". basswood body. Those weird fixed edge bridges etc.
