Will Crawlers fit the bill?
« on: March 21, 2010, 05:49:41 PM »
Hi BKP gang,

I have Rebel Yell bridge / Emerald neck in one of my LPs. Love 'em. You can hear what I do with them on the first track here. http://www.dizero.com/geartest2.php

I want another rock set in my other LP, which would have similar output, thicker lower mids & more body in general in comparison. Will the Crawlers do that?

Some may disagree, but i'm not a fan of Crawlers in  a Les Paul, i think it would be too much.  Have you thought about putting an emerald in there?

I have Crawlers in my LP and they sound very good, I think that they would meet your needs.

I'd say the Crawler bridge (in an LP) fits that description, certainly in comparison with your Rebel Yell.

I've never tried the Emeralds, but I think the neck is A5 so the A4 Crawler neck is probably a bit warmer and sweeter.

You might want to consider Holy Divers too?
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM

I used to have an Emerald instead of the RY, not enough output & a bit too tight.

I didn't like Holy Divers, they have this weird quality to them which I'd like to keep away from as far as possible.

Fair enough!   I've never tried 'em, but thought they might fit the bill for lower mids etc.

Hmm

Well that doesnt really leave you with too many options then!

For my two cents i tried the crawlers in my les paul, then relagated them to the wolfgang as i found that although they were mega thick, they were a tad overcooked for my tastes, and really lacked any kind of cut or presence.

I'm surprised the emeralds weren't hot enough as ive had both emeralds and rebell yell's in the same guitar and the difference in terms of perceived output for me was'nt that great - i guess it depends how much gain you play with (sorry i dont have speakers at the moment so cant check out your clip!)
