Did anybody watch Jools Holland tonight?
« on: April 14, 2010, 12:55:49 AM »
I did. I thought it was a load of sh!t. Worst performance of the night was difficult to pick out but I think Marina and the Diamonds might have taken it. Awful, awful, awful stuff.

I hope it doesn't continue like this for the rest of the series.
I think I hate being indecisive.

Absolutely!!!

What is it with that pathetic attention seeking singing style? God awful stuff... (but yes I would f**k her if she'd shut up)

I saw most of it.  Did Paul Rodgers actually perform, or was he just interviewed?

Didn't know what to make of Marina and the Diamonds - hated it at first, and her singing style is ridiculously affected, but it was kind of growing on me by the end of the song.  :?

I really do not like Paul Weller.

It was almost unlistenable - I had to keep it on though, it made me chuckle. 'm sure that wasn't her intention. I bet you can think of a way to keep her quiet!

Well, he did sing but it seemed very awkward and unrehearsed. I'm also not a fan of Weller but do like some of his songs. What he played tonight was an absolute turd though. I really though both were rubbish. And he needs a new hairstyle.

Yep, but fortunately I had an essay about the affect of Butlers theories of performativity on gender to take my mind off of it.

Amen to that, he's 51, not 21.

He seems to be one of these people you're "supposed" to think is wonderfully talented and utterly beyond criticism.  And he totally believes his own myth, he just loves that "Modfather" tag.  Arrogant, humourless tit.

(Edit:  Hmmm, this thread went totally batsh!t while I was typing that.... )

And he's got a girlfriend less than half his age (apparently). He's like one of those embarrassing British people you come across on a Benidorm holiday.

I watched it last night too. It was $%&#ing awful! Who picks this bunch of wank? Some tosser in the BBC seems to be favouring this stuff. Its not what you know eh...God that place needs a revolution its embarrassing.

I was messing about doing impressions of that girl singing I am not a robot in the kitchen making a cup of tea with my brother, we couldn't quite believe that they would put such cr@p on!
That bunch of blokes with the oil drum were as bad too. Why do the foolish people there dance to this cr@p to be cool? It's rubbish!

They have been putting weird things on this show for a while. Did any one see that band Wild Beasts a while back. shiteee!

I like Paul Weller but he wasn't at his best last night but being in a room with a bunch of space cadets like that its hardly surprising, he must have been embarrassed to be there.

He played a great set at the Brits 06 and can play really well live normally.

As for his hair, well don't most ageing rock stars get slated for this in their 50's and as for the age of his woman well so what, that's his business! I should think he can afford a bit more than Benidorm for a holiday. He is not really that bad now is he!

I watched it for a few mins last night. Ive also stood in the audience before.

They put that 'weird' stuff on because its appeals to a particular group of people.

I was thinking about this last night. It's been bad for a while but I think thats just the state of - not only mainstream popular music - but also the levels of pop (and other genres) beneath that.

I think with the rise of lily allen, kate nash, etc... there has been a surge of labels signing people such as la roux, little boots, florence and the machine, marina and the diamonds, paloma faith... it's all gimmick ridden turd as far as i'm concerned. Or at least thats how its sold. Any musical talent at the back and whatever gimmick front.
Bat For Lashes i think is really good... at least her first record was... but you don't see Natasha Kahn all over TV. She's got a lot of visuals that go along with her music, but the songs hold there own.

I get annoyed by this c--kney girl in a vintage 1940s dress regurgitating second rate 90's dance tunes and pretending its some kind of neo-classical folk because she isn't on ecstacy and has a retro-contemporary haircut.

I've found everything Paul Weller has every done absolutely boring and the sight of him make me wonder..."why?"

Jools Holland used to be the best music showcase on TV, and to be honest, I think it still is. Compare it to some other shows. They are mostly as bad, if not worse.

I've never heard of Marina and the Diamonds till this thread, so I've looked at the myspace and currently have the first track, I'm Not A Robot on. I think it's an absolute belter  Really, crackin' tune.

I'm going to download an album.
