I've been putting off sticking new pickups in the Gibson '08 STD as a result of my work problems that some of you may have read about in other threads. But fortunately I've had a little money come by and a new job starting soon so I figure I may as well treat myself, eh?
I've been thinking Nailbombs, but wonder if a more traditional pickup might be appropriate?
I'm using it in two bands, one is a death metal band of the early 90's style, basically think anything on Earache until '93 or so. So that grindy, crusty death metal rather than the visceral super tight modern carry on with two many notes and colourful t shirts, yeah?
The other one is a doom band, that pretty much sounds like Electric Wizard, Reverend Bizarre and all the trad doom cats.
I'm tuned to B in both bands. Clarity is probably the key, and I know usuallyu the recommendation for clarity at that low a tuning is painkiller, but I want a more classic vibe, though still with that gritty mid to cut through.
Am I right with Nailbombs?
