New pickups for my Goldtop

I've been putting off sticking new pickups in the Gibson '08 STD as a result of my work problems that some of you may have read about in other threads. But fortunately I've had a little money come by and a new job starting soon so I figure I may as well treat myself, eh?

I've been thinking Nailbombs, but wonder if a more traditional pickup might be appropriate?

I'm using it in two bands, one is a death metal band of the early 90's style, basically think anything on Earache until '93 or so. So that grindy, crusty death metal rather than the visceral super tight modern carry on with two many notes and colourful t shirts, yeah?  :lol:

The other one is a doom band, that pretty much sounds like Electric Wizard, Reverend Bizarre and all the trad doom cats.

I'm tuned to B in both bands. Clarity is probably the key, and I know usuallyu the recommendation for clarity at that low a tuning is painkiller, but I want a more classic vibe, though still with that gritty mid to cut through.

Am I right with Nailbombs?

I would assume with the short scale and baritone tuning that the NB's would get a little too messy real low.
They get just a tad bit loose at D drop in a 25.5 scale, very bright guitar.
Still fine, but starting to feel like the end is near. B might be too much to expect.
I love their dynamics and feel though, and hope they'll be OK in the mahogany Parts-O-Caster I'm finally putting together now.

The Ceramic Warpig will very easily do both the 90's death metal and doomy stuff very well whilst keeping the bottom tight. Mine is certainly tight enough in Bb.

I know pretty much any of the contemporary pickups is gonna do the death metal that I'm after, but it needs to do this as well:

Since the guitar is really not made for tunings that low, whatever gives you the clearest and most defined signal should work. Black Dog, Cold Sweat. I would not recommend matching super high output pickups with lots of bass and mids with such a detuned guitar, you'd just trade off on clarity and transparency that way.
EMGs always work though.

EDIT: After listening to that clip I somehow got the feeling, clarity and transparency is not what you're really after with that music style  :)

I do need clarity for the death metal a stuff, arrays of fuzz pedals make it DOOOOOOM. The clip was really to illustrate I'm not after clinical precision or owt.

You think it'll be clear enough in B? I'd thought Warpig originally and then thought the slightly lower output of the Nailbomb might help me out on that front.

Copies of the original PAFs so not high output. Love gain, fuzz, clean.

Very old school.

(I use A-pigs on a 7 string 10 - 59. Fairly clear, all told, not bite-y. Really interesting when playing with the volume. Pull off to 1/3 and it's old school, feed it in and you get more & more compression & insanity).

Another edit: although with thicker strings lower output may work better.

For that, and the rest of your description, I'd get some crawlers actually.

There isnt that much gain in there.

It does indeed have an organic and vintage character. Its also got quite a lot of top end tail off and a big mid hump that neither the pig or bomb innately have, but the crawler does.

The crawler is about hot enough for it, easily and has the right general character.

Since you've gone to such great lengths to state your disdain for precision, and the crawlers dont retain much below about C on 24.75 (comparatively speaking, to a tightness and precision freak like me) and cited a clip that sounds like it was played and mixed by 14 year olds with a hangover (call it even for the 'too many notes' etc thing ;)) they should work very well for you
