young musician of the year

Anyone seen this on BBC4? What do you guys think to it?

I skipped through it on iplayer because it was 90 minutes but it just seems like a load of human photocopiers with built in variable volume control, so what is there to judge besides the choice of music and how they phrase with volume.

Or do I just not get it?

i haven't seen this year's one, but i watched it a couple of years ago and they were total badasses. Imma say you don't get it.

Chris Broderick and Jeff Loomis were on it?  I'd have thought they were too old.
