Hello all, sorry for bumping this topic, but it's regarding the same guitar and the pickup recommendation for it :)

I'm happy with the PK and VHII combo, but I would like to try something with the similar voicing like PK has, but with lower output. Could you please recommend me something? maybe a Black dog?

You should look at other ceramics then. Maybe the Cold sweat. This pickup is one of my personal favourites

When I mean lower output I mean something in the hot PAF area. CS has boosted highs and scooped mids, according to the tone chart on the BKP site, that's the last thing I need.

the cold sweat does retain some of the PK upper mid crunch, but a bit more bass and a lot less center and low mids
still quite high output, but not as much as a painkiller

the riff raff is amazing, close to the cold sweat voicing, but very open and not really aggressive
and definitely NOT a black dog
there's no hot paf voiced like a PK as far as I know
maybe the VHII, but I didn't try this one

I'd say rebel yell or holy diver if you want tons of mids, like the painkiller delivers
they are medium hot and both sound great in low tunings
Riff Raff, Mules, Black Dog, VHII's, Cold Sweat

The Riff Raff is not aggressive?  The descriptions I read made it sound like it would be.

It depends on how you play them. I can make a singlecoil sound agressive. Like an agressive drunk person :P
