Ever use them?  Are they only required for particularily harsh speakers or do some of you use them as a matter of course?

I made 4 foam pyramids approx 100mm square and 50mm high and fitted in my 4 x 12. What they have done is to help the spread of sound which in itself disperses the highs better and means that the whole band can now hear me much better without loads of volume... infact I am able to turn down now!

All speakers beam high frequencies as they, like everything else, obey the laws of physics.

The beaming is dependent on the diameter of the cone, and is caused by the fact lower frequencies diffract more than higher frequencies.

Obviously different speakers have different frequency responses, so the beaming effect will be more noticeable with some speakers than others.

They make your amp sound cr@p and muffled - even with a beamy speaker like a Jensen C12N - my advice is avoid them.  Also a 6 inch circle of very heavy card taped to the inside middle of your speaker cloth does pretty much the same thing as the commercial beam blockers at a fraction of the price.

i was planning to try this, and then i got mesa boogie thiele speakers instead so never tried it.
