I think the surf green model has been discontinued so snap one up if you see one.
I see a rainbow rising
Look there on the horizon
And I'm coming home

:( they both have, apart from being signed, mine was also one of the last in the uk. the surf green tele that was n the shop i bought mine in might have been the last surf green one in the u.k.

the owner was telling me that when richie did the store day they had a talk about the guitars and i found out some interesting bits and pieces

1) they were discontinued throught lack of sales which shocked the hell out of me as it's an incredible guitar. they're very popular in certain area's but completely unsupported in others. what i'm taking from that is, basically guys in the states who know these love them but because they were never exported there, they never got the sales. they were imported for europe by fender europe as it didn't compete with any current item. a few years back the order came down from on high that jap guitars were just for the jap market, so essentially cutting off another market for them. this guitar is the "firefly" of guitars lol never given a chance
2) even though they were in production from the 90's there were only (and this came from richies mouth apparently) something like 400 of each colour produced, so the guitar is a lot rarer than you think.
3) richie didn't use some handmade custom shop model for touring and only put his name to this. He used these production line guitars for touring and studio work. he also signed off on all the guitars produced. The current red tele he's being seen with is a prototype of some description.

i thought it was interesting anyway lol

I got my Green one from Imported Instruments in Scotland, they told me it was the last one in Japan, although Thomann had 1 Green in stock. Never been a sunburst fan so it was never an option for me to have that one.

The Strat was almost an impulse buy. I was getting rid of 2 strats (usa standard and strat plus) and very nearly bought the Eric Johnson strat after a borrowed a friends for a few days. I bought the red RK strat from Katana in Japan, thinking that if i didn't like it i's simply sell it and get the Johnson. But the RK for me is the better guitar, plays great and sounds killer. Only problem is that the bridge is cheap shite and the switch is cr@p. Which is a known problem with most Jap fenders, even Kotzen himself changes the switches for USA parts on his personal guitars.

The Red tele with no scratch plate that Richie used on the last tour is not going into production, but a black version is, limited to a few hundred pieces so i hear.

Not sure, they didn't have one in stock, only 3 sunbursts. They had to order it in. It's an awesome guitar, heavy as hell compared to the strat

Ah then i didn't get to play yours, but i did have numerous discussions with john about them. The 3 sunbursts were the last in europe, and there were a few Surf greens left but the distributer wasn't handing them out to shops, they were for paid up orders only. this was basically because so many shops were after the last ones.
