well that was a total gip. And i say that as someone who tried and failed to stifle a laugh as the first two german goals went in. (love-hate relationship with the english team, never sure if i support them or not, lol)

They were kak in the extreme and were lucky they finished 2nd in be group stages. If you can't smash teams like the yanks, Algeria and a minnow of a country like Slovinia then there was absolutly no way England were going to beat Germany. I never built my hopes up after watching the first half of England V USA. I didn't watch the 2nd half as they were pathetic.  Today they played far too deep, which left them wide open for the counter attack. The Germans always get goals from play like that. The pissed all over us and played very well. I expect the Jocks loved it today.

We won the Cricket today didn't we?

Yup, makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. :D

Seriously though, considering the financial backing the England team has at their disposal you'd thing someone would force them to pull their finger out.

Well, England had a terrible playing beside the time between the 1st goal and the one that should be the 2nd... after it, the players felt so bad the mistake of referee and back to play badly... on 2nd half you tried, but not very organized, was more like to kill or to die and happened what we saw...
I say again, the midfield of England was not very good this WC, believe this is the reason of bad playing and this elimination... Sorry for you guys, hopefully Chile will make history tomorrow :)

I don't think the goal that was disallowed would have made any difference. Germany were going to win anyway. It was very painful to watch a ball clearly over the line get ruled out like that. The players should have picked themselves up quicker after that but I think they let it get to them. Payback for 1966! The two German strikers were on fire yesterday. Anyway at least it wasn't cardiac arrest inducing penaltys!

I still cant believe people are moaning about a single goal that was dissallowed when they wouldve still needed another two to win anyway.

Well, there's always the argument that it would've been a completely different match if the equaliser had stood.  Which is true, but there's no way of knowing if it would've been different in a "good" or "bad" way!

A few people have been saying Germany "only" got their third and fourth goals because England were pushing so hard for an equaliser that they got "caught on the break".  Which implies that being caught on the break is (a) absolutely impossible to defend against and possibly (b) a mild form of cheating.

I personally suspect that if England had gone in 2-2 they would have come out all complacent for the second half and they'd probably have been tonked even more badly.

Well I gotta say, Jogi Löw (the trainer) has rejuvenated the DE team totally over the past 4 or so years, imagine the main scorer yesterday, Thomas Müller, is just 20 years old.

There is not much Ego happening there, and it's all about the team spirit. I didn't see much team spirit with England yesterday. That's why I think a new trainer, who has the balls to change things from scratch and maybe even let some of the superstars go, could do England well.

Who knows.

I think both teams were shockingly poor defensively, so if they'd gone in at half time on level terms it may have been a different story, and TBH the way the match was going at that point England could well have finished the half 3-2 in front.  As it was in the second half desparation was creeping in. At the start of the move for Germany's 3rd goal Terry was in the German box and Johnson was at inside left, desparation to score had stretched their defensive ill discipline to extreme levels.
That said, we played very poorly and deserved to go out, and it really exposed the weaknesses of the team, and the most notable difference is that we had no out and out centre forward. Ironically Klose and Podolski are quite English strikers, but for some reason we haven't produced top level strikers in that mould for a while.  Johnson's defensive frailties were hideously exposed time and again, and the guy just looked terrified in the second half, and Gerrard and Rooney kept trying to win it by themselves, rather than linking up with the others. What happened to Milner I just don't know, the german left back looked hugely vulnerable, but Milner just seemed to drift out of the match after half an hour.

Totally missing the point.  If the goal had stood England would have not have to push for an equaliser and hence might not have been caught on the break.  In fact both Germany goals in the second half were created by counter attacks as England were so far up the field trying to equalise when they shouldn't have had to.

That said Germany were by far the better team and deserved to go through, the QF place would have been wasted on England anyway and lets be honest the rest of the world would rather watch the youthful and inventive German team over the poor England.

But had the goal stood, it does not mean it would have just finished 4-2, it's not as simple of that.

Fifa should be embarresed though, goals in each of the days games that should not have stood, not even borderline - a meter over the line and a meter offside in the Mexico game.
