Question concerning Epi Black Beauty
« on: June 26, 2010, 07:06:50 PM »
Hello. I'm looking a bit of advice about my Epiphone LP custom 3. I got a Warpig in the bridge, and I'm thinking about gutting a broken Gibbo SG I have and putting the pick ups into the neck and middle slots on the Epi (standard 490T & R I think). Would this sound shite? Would a bridge pick up in the middle suck? I might even keep the neck pick up, it sounds pretty good at the moment. Any advice appreciated!

Probably depends on the individual pickup and how you use it, I've got a Mississippi Queen bridge in the middle of my epi bb and it sounds smashing.

Gotta say though not a terribly big fan of the stock neck pup, found it a bit muddy for my tastes.

Cheers for the prompt advice so far fellers.

Yeah, the stock neck pup sounds muddy with distortion on, but clean it gives a great warm sound. I just sorta had ideas that a bridge pup in the middle might sound a bit strange. Wish my SG didn't snap, but then Gibsons seem to snap in half if you act like a bar-steward on stage... if only Fenders sounded as good!!

And you're not limited to Gibson or Fender ;)
